How do SSPX members deal with the issue of Confirmation? Does the Priest perform the Sacrament? Surely I would think the local Bishop of the diocese would not participate with the Society, so does this mean a SSPX Bishop would have to be available?

The SSPX bishops travel around and do them all, as far as I know.

Several requests were made to Cardinal Mahoney to perform the confirmations, but due to disputes regarding liturgical dancing the SSPX finally had to request a district Bishop to do it. 😉

More seriously, the Bishop does them. In this district, the chapels tend to send all the young people at one time, due to the distance and such involved.

I don’t think that a SSPX bishop can administer valid confirmation. I think it must be administered by the ordinary of the diocese or his delegate. The SSPX bishops do not have a diocese recognized by Rome.

Jurisdiction is not required for validity with the sacrament of confirmation. Only for confession and matrimony.

Just as Mass and baptism are valid without proper jurisidiction, so too is confirmation.

Can. 883 The following possess the faculty of administering confirmation by the law itself:
1/ within the boundaries of their jurisdiction, those who are equivalent in law to a diocesan bishop;
2/ as regards the person in question, the presbyter who by virtue of office or mandate of the diocesan bishop baptizes one who is no longer an infant or admits one already baptized into the full communion of the Catholic Church;
3/ as regards those who are in danger of death, the pastor or indeed any presbyter.

This refers to it being licit, not valid.

SSPX Bishops travel around and do Licit and Valid Confirmations. That is part of every Bishops role. Remember SSPX is a priestly fraternity. The congregation are not members of it. We honour and respect the Pope like all true catholics do. And follow the Magisterium and Tradition.
