SSPX Catholics - Very Quick Question

Dear CAF,

Do you guys remember how St. Joan of Arc was persecuted by the Catholic Church, do you remember how St. Padre Pio was also persecuted by the Church officials, … do you guys think that the Catholic Church might be wrong about SSPX Catholics? Do you guys think that just as the Catholic Church was wrong about St. Joan of Arc, is it possible that the Catholic Church is also wrong about the SSPX Catholics?

The SSPX Catholics seem so noble … so incredibly noble, even though they are not in good standing with the Catholic church… the SPPX Catholics seem so incredibly noble.

The Catholic Church was not wrong on Joan of Arc, or on Padre Pio. Certainly, there were individuals that were, just as there are individuals with the SSPX that are.

I agree that there is much that is good and admirable in the SSPX. Perhaps with the perspective of time, this will be more widely recognized in the Church. Our current Pope seems to have a positive view of them and to be making every effort toward reconciliation. It is something that I hope and pray for.

Calling them all noble is quite the blanket statement. I’ve met a fair share of SSPX goers who are incredibly noble but I have met plenty who can’t even grasp the concept of nobility.

I don’t understand why there is so much hostility against SSPX Catholics, although I feel that SSPX Catholic can talk nicer about Jewish people.

I don’t know that much about the SSPX Catholics, but they seem very noble and upright, (although I wish that they wouldn’t talk so mean about Jewish people).

SSPX Catholics are extreme-conservative catholics.

Even mother Angelica herself cannot COMPETE with the conservatism of SSPX catholis - SSPX catholics rule the conservative realm.

Although I never thought of Fr Corapi or Mother Angelica as “conservative”. Just good Catholics with the Holy Spirit alive and working in them. They both are servants of God and great examples. Although Fr Corapi was once a very bad example…

Interestingly, 60 years ago, the SSPX Priests would have been considered nothing more than average, Catholic Priests. In fact, I’d be willing to bet you a large sum of money that you wouldn’t have been able to distinguish a SSPX Priest from any other Priest of the day.

But now they are considered extreme because everything else changed while they have remained the same.

If a person were to dress in Renaissance garb they would stand out because the world around them has changed and they have not. However, there was a time in history when they too would have been indistinguishable from everyone else. Does that make them extremists? 60 years ago, no one would have blinked twice if they saw a woman in church wearing a head covering. Today it is associated with right-wing traditionalism and “extremism.”

For people that are truly servants of God in such an extent like St Joan of Arc and Padre Pio, they do not care if the world hates them and they do not seek accepance of people. They are trying to live as God wants and they devote themselves humbly to the Lord and TRUST His ways.

If one follows His ways then they have nothing to fear and do not seek acceptance of the World since those of Jesus are not of the World.

The lives of Saints are so awesome in their humbleness and devotion to God at the expense of worldly acceptance.

It was the Holy See who declared that St. Joan’s excommunication was not valid and led to a review that proclaimed her innocent of all charges.

As another poster stated, St. Joan was tried and convicted by the English because she beat them on the battlefield and condemned with the help of a corrupt local bishop who was seeking the good graces of the English so that he could fatten his coffers. The “Church” - or the Holy See - had nothing to do with it. Indeed, it was the Church who declared her innocent and eventually canonized her.

I have no idea what you mean about Padre Pio being “persecuted by the Church officials,” either. In any event, neither Saint Joan or Padre Pio were excommunicated by the Holy See, so the comparison between them and the sspx is very thin.

So true. The Catholic world has changed so much (today Joan of Arc’s family would really be cleaning up in a lawsuit). I also think very highly of the SSPX. They saved the Latin Mass didn’t they? God bless them.

Joan the Maiden wrote to Duke Philip of Burgundy, at the time of the coronation of Charles VII:
