SSPX...come home

:confused:It* is* possible that there are many SSPX priests that may very well welcome a *direct *invitation to re-enter communion with Rome - rather than have Bishop Fellay make, what comes down to, decisions with eternal consequences for them.
Why should they need a personal invitation? All they need to do is pick up the phone and speak to a Roman Catholic Bishop and that will get the ball rolling for them personally. If they desire to return to communion with Rome personally all they need to do is make personal enquiries about returning home. It’s not as if we’re hard to find.

My thoughts are that they willingly joined that organization and were ordained by them, so they are likely to wait on them for HQ to resolve the Rome issue.

Perhaps if they were directly contacted by Rome, it would open up the possibility of them making an individual decision to return to full communion.

Archbishop di Noia’s appeal in his Advent letter appears to be a starting point which may develop into direct contact in the future :

“A December 2012 letter, in English and in French, from Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia, Vice-President of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei”,** to all the members of the society** indicated that the official reply of Bishop Fellay had not yet been received.”

"Archbishop Di Noia lamented that some of the society’s superiors “employ language, in unofficial communications, that to all the world appears to reject the very provisions, assumed to be still under study, that are required for the reconciliation and for the canonical regularization of the Fraternity within the Catholic Church”.

"He added: "The only imaginable future for the Priestly Fraternity lies along the path of full communion with the Holy See, with the acceptance of an unqualified profession of the faith in its fullness, and thus with a properly ordered ecclesial, sacramental and pastoral life."

It seems that the above news report from Vatican Insider was in error and was based on hearsay which was run in an article in a French newspaper.

Here is a link to the Vatican Information Service that quotes Fr Lombardi saying that there never was any deadline:confused:

“Regarding the issue of the Society of St. Pius X, he (Fr Lombardi) reaffirmed that the date of 22 February to decide the issue is pure hypothesis and that Benedict XVI has decided to entrust the matter to the next Pope, therefore, a definition of relations with that society should not be expected by the end of this pontificate.”

This isn’t a good link. I’m going to search for the story now. I was kind of hoping for a firm date - not so they would be on the outside after, but to get some folks moving in who might otherwise stay on the fence for a long while.

The story was posted on VIS this morning, and is on Zenit now.

I was also hoping for a firm date. We are off and on fence sitters, ourselves.

Well, time to focus on praying for the conclave. The SSPX may be put on the back-burner again now for a long, long time. Or, at least until Bishops are needed again and someone gets the bright idea to consecrate some.

I have a bad attitude tonight. We keep hearing dates, Nothing happens. Lives are hanging on this, decisions are hanging …

Aarrrghhh.

GloriaMaria, I am saying a novena for Pope Benedict before the end of his reign. I will remember you in my prayers tonight. I wish you had the wonderful priests we have around here!

Thank you so very much for your prayers. May God Bless you for them.

Our priest here has the best intentions. But some silliness endures. I’m trying to work on the virtue of charity but when I hear the phrase “overpopulated world” in the Prayers of the Faithful at Mass it, um, undoes my resolve a bit.

Just one little word. But words mean a lot. So, this week anyway, I guess I’ll continue to keep one foot in and one foot out of the SSPX.

You are much in my thoughts & prayers GloriaMaria - we need to stay close to Our Lady on this one and remember that “Ubi Petrus, ubi Ecclesia” and where Peter is, is where our safety lies. Our Lord will always reward sufferings endured for His sake, so be sure that what we put up with does not go unnoticed.

It’s a bit like when one votes for a political party. You get the feeling that one little vote does not really count. But it does. One little ‘you’ sitting faithfully in your pew…does make a difference. Good example to others around you is priceless. To see a person lighting a candle, or praying a Rosary or quietly meditating while those around are fleeing the church after mass while chatting to their friends - is a priceless example. So stick around and be counted among those who care:thumbsup:enough to go against the flow.

:Dsaying a novena for the Holy Father is a truly lovely act, meaninful too, as your post is Number 100:yeah_me: here. Thanks to all for contributing to what I hope is a hopeful thread.

I’m praying for Cardinal Burke to be the next pope, for a number of reasons. Just one of those reasons is that he has expressed a strong desire to reconcile the SSPX and I think he has the energy to get it done.

Thanks for that (name removed by moderator)ut Faithdancer. So you have any info that you can post here about him? I’m not up to date on what Cardinals are possibilites:)

Your position is not unique. We get SSPX supporters here.

The Church has changed a lot over 2000. The SSPX is not sticking with the way the Church has always been, but where it was at a particular period in time. This part is allowable, as in the use of the extraordinary form by licit ministers, or the Neocatecuminate Way that mirrors liturgy of the early Church. Unfortunately, being the way thing always have been is not sufficient for the SSPX. They want their way to be the way. They want to change the rest of the Church, not just find their own place.
I know this is not what those faithful in the SSPX like to hear, but your statement “they want their way to be the way” is proved out by their as yet unresolved status with Rome.

One of the five “Conditions resulting from the 4 june 2008 meeting between Dario Card. Castrillon Hoyos and Bishop Bernard Fellay” backs this up:

A commitment to avoid the pretense of a Magisterium superior to the Holy Father and to not put forward the Fraternity [SSPX] in opposition to the Church.

I think the question that anyone who is sympathetic or supports the SSPX position should ask them selves is …*

“Where are we sure of saving our souls, and being pleasing to God?”
  • The **“how” **is well argumented and defended by the SSPX - but not the **“where”
They may very well have the essence of the “how” worked out - but can never have the “where” by the simple fact that - - -

**“Ubi Petrus, ubi Ecclesia”

the comparison to St Athanasius, does not work, for the reason that he never rejected the authority of the Pope…
