When will we get the news as to their response?
The only information given by the SSPX is that provided in the press release on DICI and repeated on Rorate Caeli. As the press release didn’t give a schedule, then the SSPX haven’t provided one.

The suspense is killing me 😦

The following press release has been issued this afternoon by the SSPX:

dici.org/en/news/sspx-press-communique-of-july-14-2012/

Also republished on Rorate Caeli: rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2012/07/communique-of-general-house-of-society_14.html

Let’s hope and pray that it is good news.
I just read the news in our catholic herald in Malaysia just a few hours ago. It isnt good. Unfortunately, the short article gives the impression they dont want to continue dialogueing seeking union but remain aloof and defiant.

We continue praying and hoping in the Mercy of God and Our Blessed Mother that this will be resolved in the the most mysterious, hidden and loving ways of God.

Yours in prayer

I must admit, I’m leaning in that direction as well. When the news was leaked that Bishop Williamson had been excluded from the General Chapter (rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2012/07/williamson-exclusion-maintained-by-sspx.html) I was hoping that it may be a good sign. That perhaps the General Chapter would be in favour of reconciliation and they didn’t want Bishop Williamson trying to sway things against an agreement. But when I saw the press releases I got a sense that there was something almost “final” about the outcome of the General Chapter, and that it may not be positive. However, until we get a definitive statement from either the SSPX or the Vatican, all we can do is hope and pray. 🤷

A public statement, to my mind, suggests one of two things:
  1. The SSPX has agreed either on schism or submission.
  2. It’s a gambit intended to get Rome to make some concession.
I have a hard time seeing that the SSPX would thumb their noses at Rome (in defiance of Fellay’s probable wishes) when they gave him a win in endorsing the exclusion of Williamson. So, if it is #1, it is more likely a statement of submission than of schism.

That said, I incline toward #2. Last we heard, Fellay was prepared to sign the preamble, but it was changed last-minute to reinsert controversial content that earlier discussions had removed. I could very easily imagine the statement being to the effect of: “If you will agree to abide by the terms we’d agreed on earlier, then the SSPX submits” – forcefully pushing the ball (for the last time) back into Rome’s court and making clear that any schism would be the result of Rome’s capriciousness and not obstinacy on their own part.

Either way it’s clear, I think, that the negotiations are over.

If readers look again at the news story on Rorate Caeli, the following update has been added:
SSPX Spokesman Fr. Alain Lorans, speaking to Swiss religious news agency APIC/KIPA, says that the Superior General, Bp. Fellay, will grant an interview to the Society news agency, DICI, in the upcoming week.
Something to look out for. Perhaps the communique will be sent to the Vatican - and then made public - before the interview, allowing Bishop Fellay to comment openly.

I just cant get my hopes up again.
I pray and pray and pray for unity!

For those who may be interested; check Rorate-Caeli Blogspot again. There is an unofficial announcement that tomorrow the District Superiors of the SSPX will have a letter read to their flocks stating that the SSPX thanks Rome for the opportunity to reconcile BUT they will pass this time. The cannot accept Vatican II in its entirety.

This is NOT an official release just the word from the Spanish press. ???:sad_bye:

Well, a little more than the Spanish press but rather an ultra liberal press source.

If I had to predict how this all goes down.
They will reiterate their rejection of the Levada document. Putting the ball in Rome’s court to give a new Document. And then they will accept. 3-4 months out.
Now, I have been wrong every single step of the way so talk it for what it is worth. nothing.

However. I think it is obvious the Pope and Levada were not on the same page and the new appointment has raised some eyebrows but just may be that the Pope trusts him to carry out his will in this matter where maybe Levada told the Pope he could not in good conscience.

The reconciliation was almost in hand before some in the Curia blindsided the process. Face the truth folks, there are many in the Church who will fight tooth and nail to stop the regularization of the FSSPX. Any attempt to reawaken the faithful to the pre-conciliar Church is a major threat to the conciliarists. I have been waiting for the shoe to drop for some time. Unfortunately i think it is on it’s way to the floor now.😦

Does any of that really matter when the Pope himself is resolved to reconciliation? Are we forgetting that there is a new man (Abp. DiNoia), hand-picked by His Holiness, to lead this effort?

My guess (as good as any, as it seems) is the SSPX wants to take a shot with Abp. DiNoia. That said, I don’t know how they might expect anything different.

But apparently it does matter or else the Pope would not have had to “hand pick” a new man.

Wait, does the SSPX have valid sacraments?

Wasn’t Bishop Lefebreve a valid bishop that ordained his church validly with sacraments?

Well, I’ll ask again, as I’d really like to know. Who in the Curia derailed this, and how?

(and BTW, I’m not a big fan of the Curia in some cases, so I’m not asking in blind defense - I’d really like to know …)

I have no idea. I dont even know if that is what happened. It seems that many on both sides feel that some have not been happy about this. I will NOT say Levada disobeyed the Pope but the Curia is big and is political. So one could expect it to act political as well.
