SSPX may be involved with diocesan seminaries

Is there a concern – on part of the SSPX – that the Church would not preserve the Catholic priesthood?
The SSPX was founded as a result of seminarians coming to Archbishop Lefebvre complaining that they were being taught heresy at their seminaries.

So I suppose there was some concern.

There’s been a few people who thought this throughout the history of the Church, but none of them have said that the Supreme Pontiff is engaging in sacrilege and sinful actions. And that our Pope is insulting our Lord and Savior.

Wasserfall, as usual you are100% dead on in looking at the problems in the church. The young men came to the Archbishop, and if they reconcile they will come in even larger numbers. The FSSP and the Instititue only have 3 seminaries amongst them and they are full so where will the other saviors of our Faith going to go?

And (some of them) that every Pope since John XXIII is illegitimate.

NB: I am not “against” the SSPX, for the most part.

And because some seminarians were supposedly taught heresy – the Archbishop – thought the whole priesthood – was going under-- if he didn’t act?

What do you mean by “saviors of ther faith”? Our Savior is Christ. All priests, in union with their bishops and the Pope, act in His place during Mass and when hearing confessions.

However the charism of the SPPX is to maintain the EF Mass, not to be philosophy teachers. Whatever the bishop said, I doubt we’ll see 100s of SPPX priests suddenly teaching in seminaries.
The other thing to keep in mind is that not every seminarian will become a priest. Even women study at some seminaries, so not all training is liturgically focused.

OTOH priests are also not limited in learning what they teach in seminaries either. I know of one priest who has a masters in physics. I also studied with priests in my graduate business classes and taught an ex-priest some computer programming. Learning is for everyone.

Archbishop Lefebvre lived at a certain time and place. In the late 1960’s – early 1970s in French-speaking Europe (and not only there, but that was his place), there was pretty much total disintegration occurring in seminaries and also in many other Catholic institutions. The Archbishop started a seminary (which became the SSPX) to take care of the problems in his place and time.

The SSPX ended up spreading all around the world due to the extreme measures that were taken by bishops and priests against those who wanted the Catholic mass the way they had always had it, and who wanted Catholic doctrine the way it had always been taught, and who were appalled by what was going on in the Church in the name of Vatican II.

These people begged their priests and bishops for help and were told that Catholic doctrine had changed and that the old mass was banned and was never ever coming back. Their children were taught heresy at Catholic schools and their pastors tossed out the statues and jackhammered the high altars.

These people begged the SSPX to come and help them, and the SSPX responded.

I’ve said it nearly a hundred times Wasserfall; others within the Church were able to achieve their goals without flagrant disobedience that resulted in near schism (and if not everyone comes back, some will be in schism).

Ignatius, Francis, and Dominic are textbook examples of changing or protecting the Church.

The ends do not justify the means.

I don’t disagree with you.

On the other hand, Latin immersion in seminary is a very interesting idea.
I’m not sure it’s the charism of any group to be philosophy teachers. Maybe the Dominicans…

??

Latin immersion in seminary an interesting idea… haha, that made me laugh. No sarcasm intended at all, I had a good laugh from that.

If it’s not their charism now, I’m sure they’ll take it anyway. 😃

Yes, if the schools around here have language immersion for elementary students, I think the seminarians can handle it also. 😉

I know! Latin immersion in seminary! How NOVEL!

What about the Pope , bishops and all our non SSPX priests? You appear to be insulting all of them.

Wow, great post. :clapping:

One of the few people on here who truly understands the SSPX.

That’s simply speculation.
