NB: Fellay’s letter merely says that the Holy See asked that the ordinations not be done in Germany. It is not a statement of the Holy See’s sanctioning of the ordinations. This is a delicate time for the SSPX, and it is good to see that Fellay is not being too aggressive. I hope that their talks with the CDF will bring much needed clarification to VII.

This shows that the relationship between the FSSPX and Rome is improving. In the past, the SSPX would have went ahead with the planned ordinations. However, since Summorum Pontificum and the lifting of the excommunications, the SSPX is beginning to see that that Rome is keen to welcome them back with open arms. I am pleased that Bishop Fellay followed the request of Rome. As Father Z said: “I take this to mean that the leadership of the SSPX is really putting the best foot forward for relations with the Holy See.”
