You have to respect a religious leader that starts a difficult task with requests for fervent prayer, most especially from other fraternal organizations within the Church.

Perhaps we should join them in prayer!
Agreed on both counts.

You don’t think sex scandals, a few wars, blithe disregard for human life, heresies that deny the Trinity, lack of belief in the Real Presence, and heterodox preaching happen today?
Not all that much within the Church, no. The sex scandals ( I note that always gets thrown in) are still a very small percentage. The Church is not currently in any war. As I stated earlier, the Vatican even lacks a nuclear arsenal. The Church doe not deny the Trinity or the Real Presence and there is a ton of good preaching out there.

I think it good to realize that even the SSPX is smaller that a tenth of a percent of the Church. Yes, there are woman priest advocates, homosexual advocate, those that deny every Church dogma possible and still try to claim the name Catholic, but these are an even smaller percentage, and no real threat to most Catholics, much less the Church at large.

But the extremes always grab the headlines and the PR. The so-called “silent majority” are just that, silent. And even more silent when 75% sleep in on Sunday mornings. 😉

I wouldn’t agree with that. My wife says I am anything but silent when sleeping.

FYI - Lest I come across anti-SSPX in my frustration with them, though I agree with little they do, I am glad that the Holy Father has continued to put forth the effort to bring them into the Church’s ministry and pray that it will still bear fruit.

I never left the Church. The Church left me. When they censure SSPX, they harm me, as I have find nothing harmful in their teaching. I have never attended their Masses. I think I will find one of the places this weekend.

When they tore down the high altars they made clear their revulsion for what we had always revered.

When they disparaged the traditional devotions, including the Rosary and Benediction, and others too numerous to mention, and do still now, they took away the people’s basis in Faith, because they also stopped teaching the Doctrines of the Church. They replaced the catechism teachings with “praxis,” which teaches nothing as you can believe 4+4 is anything you find convenient. By the way I raised four children thru parochial and Catholic High School, I have to teach them the Faith to this day. They never learned it. Most of the lay teachers they had were divorced and got up in the Sanctuary every Sunday to dispense Communion. Takes four times as long as along the rail when I was a child, and really just a show for a lot of questionable people to take a place up there, which is a sacred place.

What happened in the 60’s was a revolutionary takeover, and the lynchpin of revolutions is to tell the people were always wrong, and then you can lead them where you want.

Cite places where the old devotions are still practiced, but then look where they are disparaged by Bishops. I would rather a thousand or more people praying the Rosary at Mass, than the bored apathetic crowd present listening to a sermon about how Jesus did not mean to say what we used to be told he said, and having to wash that down with protestant hymns.

When they did their slow cook revision in the late 1960’s we blinked, and we were obedient. We thought this was the just a minor change.

The last straw was when, as part of the approved rite (no caps for that, intended) , they brought money to the altar, as Pharisees. I served as an altar boy, from grade school to high school. I never thought I would see such a thing. People really need to see how corrupting this is. The offerings to God the Father as a sacrifice are the bread and wine, which Christ offered up, and which will become the Body and Blood of Christ. Can money become that? Where is that in the Last Supper? Oh yes…Judas got the money. That is where the money is in story.

I do note that as so called conservative prelate in Australia has denied Original Sin, but no murmur from the Vatican, although they expect SSPX to continue to jump through multiple hoops.

Please pray for the Catholic Church.

Maybe that’s been the problem with the malcontented and the schismatic-minded: Are they worhshipping high altars and railings, or God? Keep in mind that the late bishop of the SSPX (may his soul rest in peace) self-censured himself by his own disobedience. He chose to leave the Church; the Church didn’t leave him.

I never left the Church. The Church left me.
As the Catholic Church is founded on the rock of Peter, She is not capable of leaving. Any separation, whether by the Orthodox, Protestants or individuals today, is on the part of the person leaving.

Never said the EF was their own. I agree with you. BUT, it was a tradition of the Church that was cast away and that the SSPX were instrumental in preserving. It wasn’t till the generosity of the current Pope that many within the Church were able to experience the EF. I think this was a strategic move on the part of the Holy Father, who has always had a place in his heart for the SSPX and their love of the EF, to drawing them back.
And it is through the Grace of God alone that any good can come from an evil act, but that does not justify the act.
They want the Holy Father to assure them that what they have fought for will not be in danger. Not in an arrogant way but in a apprehensive way. I truly believe they are waiting on the Pope as a loving Father to say, fear not.
They have SP. They have UE. The EF is now more available then anytime in the past 50 years, and the SSPX would be free to celebrate it exclusively if they choose to do so.

So what exactly are they waiting for? What exactly do they still fear? Do they want an iron-clad promise that the Mass will never change ever again? It’s impossible for a Pope (or anyone) to do so because Pope’s cannot bind future Popes on discipline.

This is why I say they’ve been beating around the bush. They’ve essentially been given everything they need and they still say no. So what exactly are they still looking for?
Fellay has shown nothing but respect and kind words for the Pope through this.
To be perfectly honest, Bp. Fellay is not the one I’m worried about.
You assume that they lack basic obedience while, in my eyes, obedience is THE MAIN eliminate driving their desire to reconcile. If they had lack of basic obedience there would be not motivating factor. What else what the motivating factor be? They could go on their way like the old Catholics.
It doesn’t seem to be a very strong desire, as they are still not reconciled despite the Holy Father throwing everything at this issue for the past few years.
Um no. How is me becoming a priest going to fix anything? I have Bishops and Cardinals above me. For all I know, I am going to be taught the same errors in seminary by a Theologian who has heterodox ideas.
You don’t have a lot of Hope or Trust, do you? Hope is a virtue that really needs to be rediscovered by people lest they fall into despair.
I never left the Church. The Church left me.
That is practically, theologically, and logically impossible.

Thank you for the replies above.

And remember, I said I never left the Church.

Yes, our Church is eternal, founded by Christ on the Rock of Peter.

Did I ever say that I was not a practicing Catholic? Or that I had not raised my children in the Church? Or that I had not sent all of them at increasing sacrifice to parochial schools, with ever decreasing reward for their religious education, which the bishop of this region ignores? Or that I do not insist they practice the Faith?

Nobody remarked on the revolution in the practice of Faith, as if blind to the difference in that way it was practiced in the past, and the way the old devotions continue to be minimized.

Yes, I suffer and continue in the Church.

Your easy dismissals were superficial.

Pray for the Catholic Church

I have, namely that the idea of a crisis or some revolution is over-blown. As to the minimalization of old devotions, there is no restriction on any Catholic continuing in some private devotion.

The old devotions are not encouraged, because the basis of them is not taught in the catechesis of our children. Read my post again. “Praxis” training is the prostestantization of the Faith, and pervasive in the parochial schools, as we have very precious few religious teachers who transmit the Faith. We used to be taught by sisters or nuns. No longer so. In my children’s high school (diocesan) a teacher was sacked for teaching proper Catholic sexual morals. He was too “harsh and judgmental.”

I hope that if you have children, they do better in Catholic education than mine did.

Who are they?

Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist right now at your Parish Church in the Tabernacle.

That’s all that counts.

Christ’s Presence is the most important thing. Unfortunately we all used to believe in it. Why has this belief decreased? And if it is the most important thing, will anything going on today increase it? Belief in the Real Presence has been decreasing for 40 years. Why?

Since atheism has increased, Church attendence across Christendom is down (except for Catholics and Baptist), I would say the problem is societal, not specifically Catholic and related to any issue at hand here. As for me, I see no difference in the belief in the Real Presence.

Doesn’t matter what anyone believes. Christ is there. Do you believe? Then spend some time with Him.

I have heard and read that Orthodoxy in the US is growing, in fact the fastest growing Christian religion.

On the SSPX site there is a very discouraging article on the newly appointed Mueller.

Personally I was hoping that the silence from the SSPX was a good thing but things are starting to look bleak.

I note that even the Baptists are down in 2011.

usatoday.com/news/religion/2011-02-16-church_growth_15_ST_N.htm

Catholis are still up, along with Mormons.

Here is a long study

demographia.com/db-religusa2002.htm

The fastest growing percentage will always be some new Church that started, because it starts from nothing. That is why comparing percentages from smaller groups to major Churchs (Roman Catholic is the largest) is apples and oranges. Even at that though, the Catholic Church is ranked strongly and belies the crisis mentality.
