SSPX on Vatican II

Doesn’t it seem contradictory to define that Councils are infallible? It makes it heresy to deny it, although one wouldn’t even be Catholic if he denied it.

The SSPX is in irregular status with the Vatican, and CAF does not allow the promotion of anything in opposition to the Magisterium. All of the SSPX members I have known on here have been banned for articulating the SSPX positions, so any answer you get about the SSPX on CAF will be from non-SSPX members.

Thus, if you truly want to know what the SSPX teaches, it’s best to hear it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. I disagree with a lot of their conclusions, but they do a good job articulating their positions. There are other traditional Catholic fora that allow SSPX discussion as well, so you can either PM me to find those or just search for them on Google. Hope this helps!

Certainly not – post #10:
……“collegial infallibility…marks a turning point in doctrinal history.” [See Fr John A Hardon, S.J., The Catholic Catechism, 1975, Doubleday, p 232-233]. This refers to the bishops around the world when teaching in accord with the Pope; when reflecting historical continuity of teaching;** and** in an Ecumenical Council when approved by a Pope.

This seems to be quite a derail of the original thread, but the heart of this particular debate is Who we consider God to be. Yes, those groups you mention do believe in a God, and a God that shares some of the characteristics that we as Catholics believe. However, their interpretation of Who God Is is far from the fullness of Truth.

Many (I daresay even most) Jews believe that Jesus existed and walked on earth, but can you honestly say they believe in the same Jesus that Catholics do? Yes, we both agree that He lived here, but that’s where our agreement ends. Likewise, Jews and Muslims believe that there was a Creator, and that He is the God of Abraham, but once you get past those basic principles, there is little agreement as to the nature of Who God Is.

It’s like saying baseball and football are the same. They are both sports, they both use balls, and they both have two teams of players that compete against each other. Yet they also have inherent differences which means they are NOT the same. Simply put, there is One God in Three Divine Persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If you don’t believe that, you don’t believe in the same God as I do.

The Catholic Church in recent years has been using this phrase about “worshiping the same God” as a means of ecumenism in highlighting the similarities between our faiths so as to bring peace and joint ventures against the evils of the modern world. Doctrinally speaking, however, there have been no declarations by the Church claiming that the God that Muslims believe in has the same characteristics as the God that Catholics believe in. If they did worship the same God as we did, they’d be Catholics, too.

Perhaps I am wrong and this will be allowed to stay open. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if someone from the SSPX will come on here and present their arguments.
