If this is true then there will be no reunion.

But it appears to be nothing than pure speculation (and possibly hopeful thinking) on the part of the Fr Blond.

I think I can safely say that if reunion does occur and Bp Fellay’s response was not what Fr Blond thinks it is that he, Fr Blond, will not be returning with the bishop.

Anyone know who this priest is and whether he is actually likely to have inside information on this subject?

Are we sure these are the exact words of Fellay? I’m sure he was more diplomatic because there is no way those requests can be seen as a “positive” response by the Vatican as stated.

So the gist may be the same, but since we’re speculating, I would guess everything was said in a way that implied:
  • the desire to reconcile
  • some proposed conditions
The person who gave the sermon does not speak for the Society.

I agree. I’ll reserve an opinion until I see something from Bp. Fellay himself. I certainly HOPE it’s not as Fr. Blond says it is. Especially this:
Liberty to preach to all its faithful of those diocese that assistance in the new mass, that is celebrated by the Pope and the majority of the bishops, is seriously favorable to the heresy and that to attend it with full conscience is a mortal sin, save extraordinary circumstances when permission is given, such as permitting seminarians to see it for studying purposes, in order to note the spirit Protestantization of it.
If true, that’s a clear “deal-breaker” right there. Liberty to preach that it is sinful to attend an approved Mass? Like that’s gonna happen

Yup, no use speculating. All we can do is pray everyone comes home and reconciliation is happening.

I find it interesting that it says the excommunication of Lefebvre continues, especially after the discussion in the previous threads about the topic.

I hope this is not accurate as it would imply a reconciliation is much further away than many of us anticipated.

I found that interesting too.

This reminds me of what I have read in regard to the Church anticipating the release of Humanae Vitae. Will the Pope okay the use of artificial contraception or not? Most people were convinced he would and even started saying so. Weren’t they surprised! Now everyone has their opinion on which way the reunion between SSPX and the Vatican is going to go, and most opinions come from people’s bias, on what they want. I am sure that is the case with this SSPX priest.

The reunion is going to happen just as the Holy Spirit directs it, and we should know in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, that’s a bit depressing. Still, it’s only one man saying this. Unless it comes direct from His Grace (or an official delegate approved by His Grace), I’m not really going to pay much attention to it.

Remember that so far all we are hearing are rumors and speculation.

Regading the excommunication of AB Lefebvre-
if I remember correctly (from one of JREducations posts on the topic), the excommunication could not be lifted because the AB had died while in the state of excommunication. A person who has incurred this penalty must reconcile with the Church, and ***ask ***for the excommunication to be lifted. AB Lefebvre cannot do this, therefore the excommunication stands.

Lord, this had better not be true–and indeed, I suspect it’s not. Reading this reminds me why the SSPX makes me so uncomfortable in the first place.
Liberty to to save souls in all the diocese that request the SSPX even those that have a bishop that may be extreme enemy of the Catholic Tradition.
In other words, Fr. Blond thinks Bp Fellay won’t reconcile unless Rome declares definitively that the SSPX can completely ignore the ordinary bishop everywhere they want whenever they want.

Excuse me? The authority of a bishop in his own diocese has been the divinely-intended fundamental structure of authority in the Church since Ignatius of Antioch. Who’s an “extreme enemy of the Catholic tradition” now? No group has the right to demand that the Pope exempt them from it, least of all a group that’s been systematically disobedient to Christ’s Church for decades.

Note also the suggestion that any bishop who opposed the SSPX on any issue and wants some measure of control over them is an “extreme enemy of the Catholic Tradition.” Is that fruitful for dialogue?

Wow. This a priest of the SSPX writing this, right? If the SSPX is in fact reconciled, he will be a normal secular priest, right? But his opinion won’t have changed. He’ll still want to preach to everyone who’ll listen that attending Mass in the ordinary form is grave matter. Isn’t that a problem? Is it not a problem, if reconciliation does in fact happen, that dozens (if not hundreds) of priests in good standing will be preaching just that? I’ve heard from JR Education, a wonderful and very knowledgeable poster, that the SSPX priests are more moderate than the laity. Is this Fr. Blonde an exception? How many priests believe (and will continue to preach) what he does? How is this not a problem, even if–indeed, especially if–reconciliation is achieved?

Again, I suspect that this priest’s opinion does not reflect Fellay’s and that Fellay did in fact sign the preamble. I’m just a bit shocked is all.

Since the excommunications had not been lifted at the time of Bp Lefebvre’s death, I don’t know how it could be lifted after his death. Excommunication only applies to living people. At this point we pray for his soul (as hopefully every has already been doing) and hope to see him in heaven.

I would not put too much stock in the words of this priest. He seems to be speaking from what he would like to see happen, rather than from authority.

I think we need to continue to wait and pray and not get caught up in polarizing discussions.

Good point. We already knew the chance for omni-reconciliation was close to zero.

Shame on you all. Brother JR is going to make you all go into the chapel tonight and examine your concience for an hour. 😛

…on your knees, on the bare floor.

There will be fasting tomorrow. 6 oz. bread and warm water. The coffee pot has been placed in the safe in the sacristy and the sacristan has been told not bring it out until further notice.

All this is your pennance for idle speculation. 😃

Incidenally, all, the priest’s name is not “Fr. Blond,” he’s Ezequiel Rubio. The Google translator, or whichever machine someone fed the original text into to produce the result we have here, simply tried to “translate” his last name.

In a serious thread, I think that provides a bit of needed levity. I’m now imagining this “Father Blond” trapped in a garage after a failed bank robbery, trying to figure out what to do with “Father Blue” and “Father Pink” and all the rest…
