It is not ruled out that Fellay’s response be examined by the Cardinals of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in the next “Feria Quarta” [Wednesday] meeting, which should take place in the first half of May. Meanwhile, some further weeks will be needed so that a canonical arrangement can be established: the most probable proposal is that of establishing a “personal prelature”, a legal figure introduced in the Code of Canon Law in 1983 [Rorate note below] and up to now used only by Opus Dei. The prelate depends directly of the Holy See. The Society of Saint Pius X will continue to celebrate Mass according to the ancient Missal, and to form its priests in its seminaries

this is absolutely wonderful news if it does not turn out to be premature

I have attended only one SSPX chapel while traveling once…and that priest certainly sounded sincere when he asked the people to say many rosaries for the Holy Father, a wise and brave man who has to steer the Catholic ship through many stormy seas…

earlier in the thread the mention was made that many new/younger priests are striving to say the OF reverently…I would love to have people be able to attend the OF with our newly (3 years) ordained priest say Mass…it is holy and reverant…and you feel the sacred…he truly shows awe each and every time at the consecration

The voice of the SSPX and the a new generation of holy priests will bring the springtime for the Church that our good and wise Holy Father desires…

let us all say a prayer of thanksgiving for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI - maybe the only man alive that could have brought this about, his guidance to us all is an example we cannot ignore
 
👍 I cant believe it yet. I hope it is true. What a wonderful story of reconciliation if it is true.
Our Pope is an amazing Pope. We wont realize until too late just how great he is.

If this is true, I wonder if the Society priests will be granted faculties immediately and before the details are ironed out?

I’m waiting for the same thing. Once they have jurisdiction to absolve me from my sins, that’s it for me - I won’t hesitate to go back to them.

I know a great SSPX priest who ministers here and I would love to to confession to him next week.

I dont agree with liberals, I dont even understand them but this is not about rejoicing over how liberals will react. This is about mercy, reunification and an example to us all. It should not be used as a finger to the liberals but rather a humble example of how we personally should submit to the Church and also how unbelievably merciful the Church can be. Divine Mercy Sunday was this weekend and that is when this went down. If anything we should hope the Church would be so accommodating to a liberal group. I would rejoice either way.

As an FYI, can someone give me a Reader’s Digest version of the discussion regarding the profession of faith and what the concerns are? I don’t need all the meat, just the high points will do fine. I have tried not to wade into the muck on this since it has been ongoing. But now that things appear to be moving in a good direction, I would like to know more about the discussions at hand. Specifically, I am referring to the comments in the article above regarding the profession of faith and submission of will and intellect.

I’m not knowledgeable about such things and I can’t wait for Brother to come on and clarify but I would assume that once the VATICAN acknowledges this then as far as sacraments and such go for the layperson, anything is a go. The details will be ironed out over a longer period of time but there should be nothing barring a sacrament from being licit.

REALLY?? How uncharitable!
Why not embrace them as the brothers and sisters in Christ that they are instead of wielding your bat of accusations against them??
As Catholics, both “groups” should be celebrating the wonders of our dynamic and all encompassing faith, and should embrace each other, not be so derogatory or suspect towards each other. Even if they do what is described above, why not reach out to them in love??
 
If this is true, I can’t even express my excitement over the implications this will have, especially for me personally. I would go from having the nearest accessible EF Mass 40 minutes away to 10 minutes away!

Think about how this would affect so many Catholics who wish to attend the EF.

Unfortunately, it is probably also true.

I spent some time today reading many of the comments by Catholics following election of Pope Benedict to the Chair of Peter. There were a number of articles about his Pontificate due to his birthday and his papal anniversary taking place this week. If you want to see a lack of charity, look there.

In this situation, there is ample precedent to predict that Catholics who tend to dissent from Church teaching, the same Catholics who were up in arms over the B16’s election, will not be happy about this latest occurrence. Saying something that is likely true, but happens to make others uncomfortable is not uncharitable.
