What’s the difference between '45 SAM and the '62 missal of another publisher?
It would be fine to use, if you’re just starting out with the EF Mass.I know of two significant changes. One is that Pope Pius XII completely revised the ritual of Holy Week in 1955. The other is that Pope Bl. John XIII removed “perfidious” from the Good Friday prayer for the Jews, and added St. Joseph’s name to the Roman Canon in his 1962 revision.
An expert might be able to tell you of a few more differences, but those are assuredly the most significant. God bless![]()
No, the 1955 Holy Week rites still include the kissing of the priest’s hand when receiving the palms on Palm Sunday and the candles on the feast of the Purification, aka Candlemas. On palm Sunday the priest’s hand was kissed as he handed you the palm branch – that too was changed in 1955.
Maybe that was just for Solemn High Mass, where I went it was not done. No, the 1955 Holy Week rites still include the kissing of the priest’s hand when receiving the palms on Palm Sunday and the candles on the feast of the Purification, aka Candlemas.
