St. Anne, mother of Mary

I’ve been talking to this protestant and up until now i’ve been doing great. Unfortunately he’s got me stumped. I explained to him that Mary is Queen of Heaven, used some passages from the book of Revelations and the book of Kings, and have effectively convinced him that Mary is the Mother of the Church.

He has a problem with the Queen of Heaven thing, which is where I am stuck. Using Kings I showed him that Mary, as mother of Christ our King is thus Queen, but he then got me on one thing. He said " i’m cool with that, but mary’s mom should also be queen
and mary’s dad should be old king or whatever and old king is called
and if it is by faith, then abraham should also be a king"

I have to admit I am stumped. I mean, as far as I recognize Anne is the Mother of Mary, but Mary is the Mother of God. Although this would make Anne technically the Grandmother of Christ, does this make her a Queen of sorts? God was not born but IS. Thus is Christ truly a descendant of Anne?

no, only from Mary, the pure Virgin. Im not a scientist, but I dont think humans contain the same DNA or blood relations from every single member of their family. We also tend to forget that Gods will is a mystery. Jesus is not mentioned as a descendant from Mary`s mother, but from Mary alone. I suppose technically you can say He is just like He is a descendant from king David, but the Catholic Church announces Him as the Son of Mary, not “the grandChild of Anne”. This would take it to a whole different level.

Let us also not forget that Jesus Christ even dismised the title “son of David”. To think with an open mind will help the protestant a whole lot.

Actually that is incorrect.

The mother of the King is referred to as the Queen because she is his mother. The King’s ‘royalty’ may or may not come from the mother. The mothers family would only be considered ‘royalty’ if the King has gain his authority from her side.

If I am not mistaken, the book of Kings shows that the mother of the King is always considered the Queen Mother. Because of this Mary is the Queen because she is the mother of Jesus, the King. But Jesus’ royalty comes from the Father and not from Mary. This is why Mary parents and ancestors are not Kings and Queens because they aren’t part of the royal line. The royal line is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and Mary became part of it when she gave birth to Jesus.

Simple example is the Queen Mum, the mother of Queen Elizabeth. She is referred to as the Queen because her daughter is the ruler of the kingdom. But the Queen Mum’s parents are not referred to as King and Queen because Queen Elizabeth is royal because of her father’s side, not her mother’s.

I think part of Mary being Queen of Heaven is simply because it is contained in divine revelation and we are not told this about Anne.

I think he is insisting on an identical typology when such is not always the case. For instance, Scripture tells us Jesus is the archetype of Adam (cf Rm 5:14). But must He parallel Adam in all ways? Did Jesus sin like Adam? Did Jesus have a wife like Adam? No, the typology is rather in reference to their role on sin’s effect on mankind.

Take Cinderella for example; She later married the prince, and presumably became Queen and had a son who became king. Her parents are not referred to as King and Queen, because they’re not royalty. If you married a king you might become queen, but your parents aren’t going to be a king or queen.

A king may have many wives - but only one mother. That is why in the Davidic Kingdom the queen was the King’s mother. The combination of this fact along with the one above makes Mary the Queen mother without her parents being kings and queens as well.
