I attended an evening mass at St Francis of Assisi parish in New York City last night. It was followed by a devotion to St Anthony which ended with the priest imprinting some sort of a seal on the foreheads of those who waited in line. What was this ritual? I can’t find anything about it online and am puzzled about it

It was probably a relic of the saint. They just touch it to the foreheads of the people.
 
yeah, it must be a blessing using his relic. Our church recently had a trip to Italy, and the pastor use the glove of St. Padre Pio to bless everyone there.
