I hope this is the right forum, if not please feel to move.

I have a question to anyone familiar with the St. Benedict Medal. I know that for some when the medal is worn there is a tranquility that is felt. This I understand because this happened to me when I knew nothing about this feeling of tranquility associated with this medal. However, it is also said that some experience a burning sensation. What does a burning sensation mean? I understand the tranquility, but why the burning sensation?

I’ve been familiar with the St. Benedict medal and Benedictine spirituality for quite some time but I’ve never heard this. Care to elaborate on how you know of this phenomenon?

I wear my St. Benedict medal every day. It reminds me of my oblation and of who and Whose I am. It’s not magic.

I have seen this referenced on several websites, plus I have been told by a person in the same ministry that I am in and also by a priest. Below is two websites that make reference to this.

thesacredheart.com/sacremnt.htm
stmichael.pair.com/sacraments.html

I am only inquiring as to the fact that I know what happened to me and still is and only found this information later, ask about it and looked it up for reference.

It’s actually a very good tool against the devil. I wear one often, so I know what you’re talking about. I always wear it when I pray deliverance prayers in front of an abortuary.

It really does help to protect me from attacks. (If any of you doubt that you can “feel” attacked, I challenge you to go outside of an abortuary for a couple hours and pray. Then, tell me how you feel.)

Generally, those who feel burning, I would say, are more than likely infested or possessed by demon(s). I know a man who lived on the second floor over an abortion clinic who said his hand burned when he touched it. My friend gave him one. He also told us that he felt pain when we said the rosary. He was a wiccan who lived with a coven above the clinic.

Just to clarify, I do not believe in magic.
By the way, magic(magick) is really dangerous. It does actually have power, but from the place that you don’t want to have power from…

I never heard of either, and have never experienced any such things, from use of this or any sacramental, even having worn the medal for many years, yes blessed by a Benedictine priest, and being an Oblate for 10 years so I have no help to offer but will view replies with interest.

I wear such a medal, but am not aware of any objective phenomenon nor subjective perceptions related to wearing it personally.

I have had spiritual experiences in my life that one would find very difficult to explain, including twice where others independently had the same experience at the same time. These are often only subjective, at times though, others notice also, for example: I was once taken into joy so profound that a calmness came over and another commented on it; this was from continuous prayer throughout the day. I believe this could happen in association with the medal, not due to the medal, but due to the disposition of the faithful wearing it, and constant remembrance of God, because of it. One could also feel safe because of belief in the protection of God.

(I guess a burning sensation may be due to heartburn (not a joke) or metal allergy. Try removing it and see if it makes any difference. Then replace it and see if any change occurs. Do it under the same conditions to rule out digestive issues. Try wearing it with plastic wrap around it. This way you will eliminate doubts and superstitions if there are any.)

Was the medal blessed by a priest?
It can be blessed by bishop, priest or deacon…it used to be limited to a priest of the Benedictine order, but no longer. There is a certain prayer formula for the blessing that should be used.

I wear one. Blessed by the Holy Father. If it is burning maybe some are reacting to the metal in the medal.🤷
