Well, no, I don’t think so, not really. He seems to have been loyal to the Pope, instrumental in developing devotion to the BVM and all, so I have some doubts…
Here I am starting a wild rumor, and that is that his attacks on papal and episcopal corruption anticipated the Reformation. Something I read seems to have suggested that, but I am NOT arguing that at all. It could have been a hallucination or a fortune cookie. Unfortunately his works seem scarce in English, and I would like to look at his attacks on the Church and see what they were, My Latin ain’t up to it, so I was wondering if anyone had bothered to translate it into our vulgar tongue. And if that anyone had bothered to post it on the internet. And if it is for free, as I am a penny pincher.
Points for proof he held a reformed position on anything! Bonus points for anyone proving he attacked modern Catholic theology! Like I said, I have my doubts…
