Hi,
Code:
In our parish, Holy Name of Mary, here in Sault Ste. Marie, MI we have a group of individuals who are promoting *The 12 Year Prayers of St. Bridget of Sweden on the Passion of Jesus* This prayer form is making me really nervous. These particular prayers, given by Our Lord to St. Bridget of Sweden, are to be prayed for 12 years. Our Lord promised to all who pray them the five graces listed below. And by the way, if the person praying these prayers dies before the 12 years are over, Our Lord will accpet them as having been prayed in their entirety. If a day or two is missed due to a valid reason, they can be made up later.
  1. The soul who prays them suffers no purgatory.
  2. The soul who prays them will be accepted among the martyrs, as though he had spilled his blood for his faith.
  3. The soul who prays them can choose three others who Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy.
  4. No one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost.
  5. The sould who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance.

This devotion was pronounced good and was recommended by the “Sacro Collegio de propaganda fide,” as well as by Pope Clement XII. Pope Innocent X confirmed this revelation as being from our Lord.

This devotion is being encouraged by Dupage Marion Center Phone# (630) 968-5268

What is the official teaching and understanding about this prayer form as far as The Roman Catholic Church is concerned? Is it valid and should it be promoted?

    Thank you for you help,
    Bill Cline

Wow that’s odd. I have no idea.

I quote from this publication of the St Bridget Prayers:

“The Notary of the Supreme Holy Congregation of the Holy Office issued a notice, dated 28 January 1954, stating that since the supernatural origin of the promises listed for the 15 Prayers to St. Bridget are uncertain they should not be published or reprinted. Signed by Marius Crovini.”

SO the Vatican has disapproved them. Note, though, that it is only the PROMISES that are disapproved. No approval or disapproval is necessary for prayers, and certainly the prayers themselves are not prohibited to be published nor said.

Oh, that makes sense.

The 15 Prayers of St. Bridget are different from the 12 Year Prayer of St. Bridget. What document discouraged the 15 prayers?
