I was given a laminated printout with a 12 year novena and some promises along with the following claim:
These prayers are published under sanction of the Decree of November 18, 1966, published in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, Vol. 58, No. 16 of December 29, 1966.
I was very skeptical of this so I located the article in question. Here is a link:

vatican.va/archive/aas/documents/AAS%2058%20%5B1966%5D%20-%20ocr.pdf

The last month listed there is November, yet the pamphlet claims it was approved in the month of December in that article.

The next year of Acta Apostolicae Sedis begins with the month of January, so the month of December, 1966 is completely missing, where the pamphlet claims it was approved.

Am I correct that this is a hoax? Pretty disappointing.

The decision was given in November, the volume of the AAS containing it was published in December, so it would be under November in that link. Also, things are not in order by date always, but sometimes are organized by the Congregation issuing the decree.

All that being said, I can’t find anything referencing these prayers for November 18. However, there is a decree from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from November 15, 1966 concerning the abolition of the Index of Forbidden Books. However, it notes that just because the canonical penalties associated with the Index are removed, the moral force–that books contrary to the faith can be harmful–remains forever valid.

The promises were forbidden to be published by the the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (then known as the Holy Office) in 1954.

My guess is whoever published the promises now thinks this prohibition was lifted when the Index was abolished. But as I mentioned above, that didn’t actually mean the promises are now ok–they are still problematic.

does the 12 year novena come with any promises? if so list them.
One of them is that none of your descendents down to the 4th generation will go to hell.

Another is that you will be spared Purgatory.

Yet another is that you will be made aware of the time of your death a month in advance.

Ha! i’ve gottya!(to the publisher)
promises are hoax
claim of approval is hoax.

  1. The soul who prays them will suffer no Purgatory.
  2. The soul who prays them will be accepted among the Martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for his faith.
3.The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy.
  3. No one in the four successive generations of the soul who prays them will be lost.
  4. The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his death one month in advance.
Every single one is a hoax. .
Eternal Father, through Mary’s unblemished hands and the Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You the …
I dont, however find any doctrinal or theological error in the prayer and it is safe to pray them if the quoted text is the prayer.
