St Faustina True? False?

You know, i have liked the Divine Mercy prayers and story for a few years but recently i have began to ask myself questions about its validity.

Yes, it has been given the ok by the Church and Faustina made a Saint.

But still, i cannot help but feel wary of how true it all is? How true is her diary. How true that Jesus said the things she said He did?

I mean, we only have her word for it in her diary.

Am i mad to doubt it all even though the Church gave it its blessing?
 
You’re not required by the Church to believe in private relvelations, or, for the fact, to even have certain devotions. I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy because I like to do so, not because I believe the story (although I do).

You are not required to believe it.

As with all apparitions and other things of this type, you are free to take them or leave them. If it is not helpful to you, don’t dwell on it.

It’s true because the Church says it is. You, however, are free to ignore it all together if you wish and still remain a Catholic in good standing. It’s private revelation and no one is required to believe it or practice it.
 
I guess the question I would ask myself if I were in your shoes is what about it doesn’t feel right? What teaching, what saying, what part is not in line with public revelation?

In other words, why doesn’t it feel right?

I don’t think this is quite right. The Church says it is worthy of belief, not that is is true. They don’t go that far as to say it is true, because it is a private revelation, meant for the person to whom it is revealed. There is a difference between being worthy of belief and saying something is true. One does not have to believe in it.
 
I think I’d be more concerned wheather her visions made people better or better Catholics or not. Apparently the Church thinks so and the Church does investigate thouroughly. I will go with the Church:thumbsup:. Peace.
 
It’s something I want to believe in, but have questioned. I love the Divine Mercy Chaplet though; it’s such a beautiful powerful prayer.
 
You are not required to believe it, but you have no idea what treasures you are turning your back on in the lives of the Saints.

BTW, we have much more than just her word for it. Saints are vetted. Testimony is gathered Statements are taken and evaluated. The church has been at this for a few thousand years, so it knows what it is doing. Bodies buried for vast amounts of time are found uncorrupted, years of documentation are reviewed. It is an exhaustive process, a life work for some, and still you are not required to believe it.

The words supposedly spoken by Jesus to St Faustina. How would we know they are indeed true or not?

For that matter, how do you believe in the New Testament?

I am not nearly a perfect Catholic … I make many mistakes … but belief is something I have never had an issue with … I do indeed believe that belief is a gift from God … because I know for certain that there are times in my life that I did nothing to help that belief … but it never wavered … it was always there.

For me if the Church has said that they believe in St. Faustina and her book on Mercy, then that’s good enough for me. I believe in Christ, and I believe in His Church.

There is one part that troubles me: That is the part where she says Jesus implies that religious are closer to God than faithful Catholics—the bit about the moon and the stars. That seems to contradict scripture.

Never having read any of St Faustina’s diary: what does she say about the moon and the stars?

Two words have always bothered me: “…holy mighty One, holy immortal One,”, rather than “… holy almighty One, holy eternal One…”.
Is that because at that point, we’re addressing Our Lord rather than the Father?
With “Holy God…” at the start, it doesn’t seem that way, though. 🤷
 
I had no idea this was such a place of strife. I haven’t been here in years. I got here through a search on a particular matter, whether we are required to believe the things that St. Faustina said that Jesus said. It’s distressing to hear about all this bad behavior.

Assuming you didn’t mix up any punctuation marks, and i’m sure you didn’t, i have to agree with you. Abandoned these forums in latish 2012, came back early this year, and was shocked by the polarising (can’t think of a better word) of beliefs that had taken place. Especially political hardening. :eek:

Is that the sort of thing you mean?

Thats kind of wishy washy imo. We look to them to declare things like this true or false, if they just say its up to us whether we hold any stock in them or not, thats not a great sign of true faith.

No, you are not mad to doubt it.

However if you doubt what the Catholic Church taught about the validity of the Divine Mercy, who’s to say about the validity of the Church’s teaching on say the Eucharist?

Personally speaking, the Divine Mercy, has given what I have lacked in a long time, hope.
