St. Faustina's Diary on "union with God"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In paragraph 461, St. Faustina wrote in her Diary – Divine Mercy in My Soul:

…Jesus wants the soul that is in close communion with Him to be filled with peace, despite sufferings and adversities.

The saint continues in paragraph 462:

Now I understand well that what unites our soul most closely to God is self-denial; that is joining our will to the will of God. This is what makes the soul truly free, contributes to profound recollection of the spirit, and makes all life’s burdens light and death sweet.

St. Faustina, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of Mercy, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Jesus, I trust in You!

This is a very enlightening post, indeed! It is something I truly needed right now to remember that Our Lord Jesus is always with us to grant us peace through our sufferings and to help us bear our burdens.

“Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For my yoke is sweet and my burden light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is something we all need to remember, and St. Faustina encourages us in saying both: “Jesus wants the soul that is in close communion with Him to be filled with peace, despite sufferings and adversities.” as well as:

Now I understand well that what unites our soul most closely to God is self-denial; that is joining our will to the will of God…

NOW she understands…St. Faustina didn’t learn everything, all at once, but she learned by being humble and open to the working of Divine Mercy in her soul. She learned by God’s Grace to see whatever she needed to deny in her “self”, and He gave her the grace to do whatever she needed to do His Will – all in God’s timing.
Now she understands what unites our soul most closely to God is *self-denial; that is joining our will to the will of God * This is what makes the soul truly free, contributes to profound recollection of the spirit, and makes all life’s burdens light and death sweet.

May God give us His grace to join our will to His, always, one moment at a time as grace bids on grace.
