Has any priest celebrated her feast day at Mass today? I was a bit disappointed, since I had marked this in my breviary. Yet the Divine Office for today did not have it either. It appears to be valid per this website, and a couple others.

St. Faustina, pray for us that we may embrace your teachings on Divine Mercy.

Divine Mercy Litany in Honor of St. Faustina

Divine Mercy, gushing forth from the bosom of the Father, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, greatest attribute of God, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, incomprehensible mystery, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, fountain gushing forth from the mystery of the Most Blessed Trinity, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, unfathomed by any intellect, human or angelic, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, from which wells forth all life and happiness, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, better than the heavens, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, source of miracles and wonders, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, encompassing the whole universe, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, descending to earth in the Person of the Incarnate Word, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, which flowed out from the open wound of the Heart of Jesus, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, enclosed in the Heart of Jesus for us, and especially for sinners, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, unfathomed in the institution of the Sacred Host, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in the founding of the Holy Church, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in our justification through Jesus Christ, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, accompanying us through our whole life, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, embracing us especially at the hour of death, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, endowing us with immortal life, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, accompanying us every moment of our life, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, shielding us from the fire of hell, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in the conversion of hardened sinners, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, astonishment for Angels, incomprehensible to Saints, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, unfathomed in all the mysteries of God, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, lifting us out of every misery, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, source of our happiness and joy, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in calling us forth from nothingness to existence, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, embracing all the works of His hands, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, crown of all God’s handiwork, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, in which we are all immersed, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, sweet relief for anguished hearts, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, only hope of despairing souls, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, repose of hearts, peace amidst fear, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, delight and ecstasy of holy souls, I trust in You
Divine Mercy, inspiring hope against all hope, I trust in You

Prayer:
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Unfortunately there are so many Saints that the Church ultimately only includes a handful of those included in the Roman Martyrology. The General Roman Calendar has “Universal Saint Days”, which are in calendars in the entire Church, and also allows countries to honor other Saints who may have a more significant role in their locality. For instance, in the United States the Feast of St. Patrick is an optional memorial, however in Ireland it is a solemnity. As for today, this is true. On calendars in the United States it is an optional memorial for Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos. The Church unfortunately cannot honor every Saint, actually any day has at least five saints normally, sometimes more. The church decides which ones to include based on historical evidence and how much influence they have on the church worldwide. The saint you mention may be honored in the country they come from or influenced heavily on the people.

The Divine Office website is closed to everyone except private members. 🙂

As for celebrating any particular saint’s feast day, it very much depends on where and for whom the Mass is being celebrated. I rather imagine she is being celebrated in Poland on her feast day.

The Daily Gospel website lists her for today along with others: dailygospel.org/main.php?language=AM&module=allsaints&localdate=20161005. She is not on the universal calendar for the USA–at least she isn’t on mine. Many people in the USA follow the Divine Mercy devotion, but she is a newly canonized saint. In time she may be on our calendar, but for now she isn’t.

We are free to celebrate any saint of the day with prayer/devotions. But, as I understand it, which saint, if any, is celebrated with a Mass is up to the bishop of the diocese.

If St. Faustina is not on the General Roman Calendar, then the Ordo will most likely not have it. In Canada, today is Ferial, so one can either celebrate the Weekday office and Mass, OR, because it is a weekday in Ordinary Time, one can also celebrate any saint of the day listed in the Martyrology, St. Faustina included, as an optional memorial.

St. Faustina is probably observed in some obligatory form (obligatory memorial or feast) in Poland.

Thanks everyone.

I just turned on EWTN Live with Fr. Mitch Pacwa. He announced that today is the feast of St. Faustina, and gave a brief bio of her life. So I guess it depends on a number of factors. I did not view the Mass on EWTN, so I don’t whether Fr. Mark celebrated her feast day, but I did see him in a white vestment rather than green for Ordinary Time.

I probably should have opened a new thread, but maybe this will work.

In my breviary, I have noted that tomorrow, October 11, is the feast designated for Pope Saint John XXIII. However, the daily mass readings on USCCB indicate that it is an ordinary day. OTOH, EWTN is airing programs on him this week, which suggests to me that they are going to celebrate his feast tomorrow.

Anyone?

My pastor celebrated the mass for Pope St. John Paul XXIII. 👍

Here’s one more - Pope St. John Paul II on October 22nd. I think I need a new breviary, folks. Many new saints are noted with my pencil, but I don’t have the prayers. St. Pio was another one - noted, but no prayers.

You can look up the prayers online. Just enter the saint’s name and “closing prayer” or “collect” and websites should come up that have them. 🙂

Thank you, Della. I was ready to follow your directions, just in case I was not able to pray Lauds in union with the Church for St. John Paul II’s feast day this morning. (I will remember this for future feast days!)

However, I was happy to find that DivineOffice.org had the Office for St. John Paul today, and it included the proper collect in the closing prayer. :gopray:
