I found something interesting reading about St. Francis of Assisi. St Francis was told by God to “build his church”

and years later God spoke to Joseph Smith was supposably given the priesthood and then told to reorganize the church.

Anyway, I’m an exmormon (no catholic) and well I was very moved by St. Francis’ story and well I guess I can see that Joseph Smith fugged his story since St Francis never SAW God and Jesus.

Anyway I would love your thoughts on this since both were told to pretty much help “the Church”

Also I know a lot of Mormons believe Joe Smiths story but I do not so really we can just discuss. i would just like to see how you all feel 🙂

If you look at Saint Francis charachter and the carachter of Joseph Smith, You will choose Saint Francis over Joe Smith, the same as you would choose Saint Francis over Adolf Hitler.

Oh so very true! I think it is still interesting though so many people believe in Joe Smith.

A little harsh, don’t you think? Maybe PT Barnum and Saint Francis would be a better comparison.

It’s the difference between Mother Teresa and Reverend Moon …

P.T. Barnum was a showman and founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus. He said “There’s a sucker born every minute”.

He is a marketing person.

Not that I have looked further than that.

In any case, this whole history is one I find odd, but I would believe Francis, but not Joseph, then again, I have not heard much Catholic sources on this, only protestant Rhetoric, I know they are non-catholic, NOR HAVE AN ACCEPTED BAPTISM ACCORDING TO THE CHURCH, so, I stick with theological debate, and where it affect such, would view more, further, a person’s life is vital, nor is it necessary to quote the percentage of comparison to Hitler rule, nor is there reason to compare with Hitler in all necessity, one need not be overly immoral to be discounted as God’s messenger, but nor does this discount one. simply put, I do not accept the teachings of Mr Smith, but I also do not think he can be compared with Hitler. Also, I accept official channels, and globally known righteous people’s testimony, before those who are not known for goodness, unless the facts contradict,

Sorry, but Hitler and Joseph Smith cannot be compared. Hitler was a lot smarter and his work had a much more devastating impact on the world. Joseph Smith was relatively harmless even if his church comes up short. He was a charlatan, but not a mass murderer.

Let’s see, St Francis got a vision that he was to “clean/repair God’s Church”–at first, Francis thought it was a local, fallen into disrepair Church–then he realized it was a much greater mission

So, Francis and his first few followers walked to Rome, and surprisingly, (yes, miraculously–the Pope had had a vision of his own) got official recognition for their new order.

The Franciscons “repaired” the Church by preaching the Gospel and living exemplary lives of poverty and obedience. Francis’ own life was marked by illness and heartbreak.

Joseph Smith Jr. claims that all current Church’s around him were abominably corrupt, because, hey, being branches off the Catholic Church’s trunk, they were just as wrong in theology and authority as the CC. So this neer-do-well occultist conman claims he has Divine inspiration of various sorts, gets involved in bank scandals, inciting civil insurection, claiming other men’s wives for his own, having presidential/kingship political ambitions that including raising a city milita only smaller than the Federal Army, has a rival newspaper press destroyed because it broke the news of his adulteries and ambitions, and finaly was killed in a Midwest shoot out.

NOW I see the similarities between the two

It was rather miraculous considering how many other groups like it rose out of the populace in the same era, and were rejected.

Once Francis’s group was approved, it pretty much absorbed most of the energy of that movement and grew rapidly. This created problems for the Franciscans later, it may have grown too rapidly.

I don’t really see any comparison with Joseph Smith at all, unless one wants to focus on the similarly claimed “message” from God.

Otherwise they are as different as tomatoes and potatoes.

yes that is what I was saying they are simular because they bother got a message. I don’t think they are simular in any other way

didn’t J smith deny black people to his fake church? somehow the mormons changed their stance around 1976/78 and decided that indeed black people could be saved too.

how anyone of African descent or ANY descent could belong to such a racist church is beyond me.

St Francis held to the Church’s teachings that she is for ALL mankind.

Both claimed to have received a message. The messages were similar, but not exactly alike. In any event, one and only one was such a great example of Christianity that he is acknowledged by Catholics and non-Catholics, and even non-Christians, as one of the greatest examples of what it is to follow Christ.

In a lot of ways, looking at the two side by side can show us much about what it is to be called by God. And how we can tell who was called.

That is so VERY true!👍
