How does an angel become a saint? Are all angels saints? I thought they are spirits. The reason I ask is because today is the feast day for the major angels.
 
You have to look at the word Saint. It means holy. So, every human who has died in a state of grace and is now in heaven is obviously a saint because they are in fact holy, but you also have to say the same of the angels that didn’t fall. You have to be holy to be in the presence of God, therefore we can and do call angels Saint or Sanctus which simply means “Holy” Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, etc. So, yes, every angel that is IN heaven would be called Saint.

If I am wrong in any way, I’m sure one of you will correct me.

Hagios or “saint” in scripture refers to those that have been set apart or consecrated to God and are therefore holy. Hence the Church uses this term normally to refer to those now in heaven. Using the charism of papal infallibility, the Church can know with certainty that a person was set apart or in other words was part of the elect.

Of the angels currently in heaven, the Scriptures refer to them as both hagios (saint, holy, consecrated) and of the elect (i.e. Mark 8:38 and 1 Timothy 5:21 respectively).
