I’m desparately trying to decide on a saint’s name for Confirmation (too many good saints!). I thought that I had chosen St Marcella of Rome, but then today I found St. Gemma. Has anyone studied much on her, and if so, what do you think of her? I really like that she had such a strong faith and she was very kind. Is she a very well known saint?

I have read her Biography based on her confessor who knew St. Gemma over the period of her young life…She was a mystic…saw Our Lord, and His Mother, offered sacrifice for the conversion of sinners…never entered the religious life, but was “spiritually” a Passionist…also, had an argument with her Gaurdian Angel one time…so much I could say on her, but a truly pure, and beautiful soul…truly a bride of Christ!!! Great name meaning “Precious Gem”…👍

BTW…she bore the Stigmata, surely one of Christs closest friends!!!

Thanks! I didn’t know she had a biography out, but I ordered one right after I read your post. I’m pretty sure I’ll take her name for Confirmation.

I LOVE St. Gemma!

I totally would’ve taken her name in confirmation if I would’ve known about her, lol.

You can get a third class relic of St. Gemma from this man’s website:
St. Gemma Galgani
He actually strives to stay in union with the Magisterium, fyi. I know at least one other site dedicated to her which is run by sedevacantists. Gotta watch out.

The medals, holy cards, pictures, and other things that you can get through that website are touched to a first class relic of St. Gemma before he sends them to you. I got several pictures, holy cards, and medals but I ended up giving them away pretty quickly, lol. And I will always treasure her third class relic.

I think that I’ve read almost all of the 70 articles on that website about St. Gemma. Definitely worth the time.

Funny story, very soon after I found out about her I placed two seperate orders for medals, cards, etc. Both orders arrived on February 14th! Yeah, she’s awesome.

Pray for me,
Andrew

Yes, she is a Stigmatic. I only came across her name while reading the book “The Rite” by Matt Baglio (amazon.com/Rite-Making-Modern-Exorcist/dp/0385522703). In the opening prologue of the book, she comes down and assists a priest doing the Rite, with the BVM. The link to the book should allow you to read through the prologue. She is always dressed in black. This allowed me to research her and know more about her.

I am not sure if she is well known here in the US, probably more famous in Europe.

I adore St. Gemma. I have been spreading devotion to her to my friends and husband who have back troubles 😃 Padre Pio had a devotion to her as well.

Thank everyone. I’m officially using her name for confirmation. What are your favorite things about her? I love how devoted she was.
