St. Gertrude, born in 1256 in Germany, was a Benedictine abbess celebrated for her revelations concerning the Sacred Heart. Her writings are very important for mystical theology. She died A.D. 1334.

EPISTLE:

I was just reading about her this morning and actually plan on researching and doing a blog post. The Catholic faith has so many recognized holy men and women. They are so inspiring.

Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear: for the King hath greatly desired thy beauty. All the rich among the people shall entreat thy countenance: the daughters of Kings in thine honour. After her shall virgins be brought to the King: her neighbors shall be brought to thee. They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the King.

[The parable of the ten virgins. They that were ready went in with the heavenly Bridegroom to the Eternal Banquet.]

At that time, Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: The kingdom of heaven shall be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride. And five of them were foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps. And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept. St. Gertrude, please pray for all of us living sinners, and especially pray for all the souls in purgatory as well.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, for those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
 
To me St. Gertrude brings relief from my most grievous worry – the welfare of many of my relatives after death. So many, so far from God. I pray for them constantly, but see no apparent change in their attitude. Jesus told St. Gertrude: “When I behold any soul in agony, who has thought of me with pleasure, or who has performed any works deserving of reward, I appear to that soul at the moment of death, with a countenance so full of love and mercy, that the soul repents from its inmost depths for having offended Me, and that soul is saved by this repentance.” These are indeed words of comfort.
 
Is there a particular work of hers that you all would recommend?

👍 So true, my budget would be in so much better shape if I didnt keep buying books about or by them 😛
