Is the prayer Jesus gave to ST Gertruge that frees a 1,000 souls have any reqirements other than for anyone to just say it? Does one have to be Catholic in a state of grace, can any person of any Christian faith say the prayer with the same result of freeing a 1,000 souls from the pains and healing of Purgatory?

My two cents, George, which isn’t worth much around here or elsewhere: just say the prayer and leave the technicalities to Our Lord. I have a suspicion He will honor the prayer if prayed from the heart; no matter who says it. :)👍

Even if God has decided not to grant the release of 1000 souls, grace is still entering your heart each time you say the prayer. I think that God appreciates selfless acts for the betterment of others.
 
It is superstition to think that just by reciting a prayer that its effects will be immediate or even honored.

Souls are released from purgatory when they have satisfied divine Justice.

God is in charge; He takes care of things when He decides they are ready.
 
The number 1000 is symbolic; to my knowledge it was added later. Still, Our Lord will release many souls if we have great confidence, and if we pray with fervour. Jesus told St. Gertrude that the efficacy of her prayers depend upon the love with which they are made.

Bl. John Massias released 1.4 million souls from Purgatory, primarily by means of the Rosary (a highly indulgenced prayer) and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

The St. Gertrude prayer is authentic , but I read in the past that the “1000 souls released” was not part of the revelation or writings of the Saint.
 
I’m happy to say that I successfully got our deacon to refrain from repeating this whole 1000 souls being released from Purgatory each time this prayer is recited. We would pray this just before the closing of the Mass. In the Life And Revelations Of St. Gertrude The Great, it only mentions that a “multitude” of souls was released to Heaven after she prayed the famous prayer. I love the prayer myself; I do not like the idea that God is bound to release a specific number of souls by this prayer, which often leads to pride on our part. I’ll stick to the Enchiridion of Indulgences.

And don’t ask what I think of these “Let’s Empty Purgatory” sites either.:rolleyes:
