I need help understanding what St. Ignatius is talking about here in this clip in the epistle to the Ephesians, particularly the wirh the virginity of Mary. The link to the whole epistle is below.
Now the virginity of Mary was hidden from the prince of this world, as was also her offspring, and the death of the Lord; three mysteries of renown, which were wrought in silence by God. How, then, was He manifested to the world? A star shone forth in heaven above all the other stars, the light of which was inexpressible, while its novelty struck men with astonishment. And all the rest of the stars, with the sun and moon, formed a chorus to this star, and its light was exceedingly great above them all. And there was agitation felt as to whence this new spectacle came, so unlike to everything else [in the heavens]. Hence every kind of magic was destroyed, and every bond of wickedness disappeared; ignorance was removed, and the old kingdom abolished, God Himself being manifested in human form for the renewal of eternal life. And now that took a beginning which had been prepared by God. Henceforth all things were in a state of tumult, because He meditated the abolition of death.

I’m not sure what’s the question.
Thanks for stepping up. I don’t understand this:
Now the virginity of Mary was hidden from the prince of this world, as was also her offspring, and the death of the Lord; three mysteries of renown, which were wrought in silence by God.

Satan was unable to discern that Mary was still a virgin during and after the birth of Jesus.

He was unable to discern that Jesus was God while He lived.

He probably gloated at the Crucifixion - until it was too late, He did not understand that God Himself was to die to redeem His people.

Thanks for your help! I had given up.

But what about the temptation in the desert?

Satan, even though a* fallen *angel, has a vastly superior intelligence to that of man. He can’t see the future but he can, and does, come to conclusions based on his intelligence.

He knew there was something about the man, Jesus, but he couldn’t be sure so he tried to tempt Him, tested Him, trying to work out if Jesus was the Messiah. In that he was frustrated by the responses Jesus gave him, which neither confirmed, nor denied.

He had his suspicions, but couldn’t be certain.
