More importantly, he’s claiming that God “allowed” this to happen. But wouldn’t it have happened anyways, since these priests have free will? If God was previously not “allowing” this to happen, wouldn’t that mean that he was interfering with their free will at the previously?

If you read the link, he talks about priests who succumb to other worldly pleasures than molesting kids. That’s free will. They’ll be dealt with accordingly, by God, when their time comes, unless they clean themselves up and hit the indulgences big time, which involves Holy Confession. Believe me, if they clean themselves up, they’re going to feel like **** stepped on. St. Francis felt like **** for his sins, because he knew that his lighter-than-ours sins, with what he was given, were worse when committed by him and, to one like him, to hurt God was like if he had punched his loving biological mother in the face (but you can throw in the Blessed Virgin Mary too). Recovering priests, not being near as tight with God, if put in a prison cell or monastic cell, will have to deal with their sins while on an all-time ego-low. If they die to themselves here, they’ll pay off most, if not all, the damages of their sins. Otherwise, if they get absolved, and not die in mortal sin afterwards, they’ll be in a world of pain in purgatory. Victims groups don’t see that, though they shouldn’t love the thought of the priests self-torture or after-life torture, but not think anything they can do in revenge will be more than a drop in the bucket. Instead, they may be getting in trouble with God in the process of hating their abuser. They’ll never feel truly happy that more than their abuser-priest’s being put out of commission would happen to him. It may be a test. Look what happened to the kid from “Blind Side.” He was unintentionally neglected by his sick-headed druggie mom, but was saved from his situation by a good family. Others are saved by social workers–liberals can do some things right, sometimes (LOL). Others are not, but may be understood as not in their right mind upon death. Then again, everybody gets hurts, somehow, sometime, on account of a parent or two, so maybe we have to just become better people.
Regarding free will: maybe certain times fostered an environment for weak priests to feel the liberty to either have a mistress, acquire money illicitly or molest kids. Maybe God didn't even touch the cycle groups go through or maybe he withdrew his grace as they wanted by their sins, but inspired people like St. Francis to inspire them to seek God's grace. Maybe He increased His grace in authorities that helped them to shape up themselves, if they were taking too long, and, by their free will, step in to keep the evil from continuing. God brings a greater good from evil left to happen. Maybe it snaps us out of our listlessness to see a problem they've ignored.

Have you read about the Muslim guy who said Earthquakes were a result of God’s anger due to women not adhearing to clothing mores?

So a Muslim knows God’s ways like a saint?
I don’t know what the Muslim understood to be immodest, but he could be partially right, though it would be more than immodest clothing.

Please think about your decision to place this in Philosophy, rather than the back fence or some other appropriate sub forum.

Pat Robertson’s rendering of the text is worth remembering here now.

St. John Eudes wrote a belief about something. Though it involves God, I believe it is philosophy. It’s his take on why something happens and, being a saint, he’d have a pretty educated guess about God’s ways. I provided my philosophy, as well, which, though not the greatest, beats out “So God is mad at the Church in general… so he took it out on a bunch of kids?”. Since faith is not separate from reason, there’s no reason this should topic not be a philosophy. Besides, this is a Catholic forum. Are we going to leave the creator of logic out of a logical argument?
People don’t seem to like what St. John said and I guess neither do you, Strawberry Jam. I wonder if that is a factor in your wanting this post elsewhere. Well, I’m sorry some of you don’t like to hear God isn’t “Buddy Jesus”, but Mary predicted a greater war to the children of Fatima, brought on by her son as a chastisement, if people did not mend their ways. Yes, it is a possibility God can allow bad things to happen in order to reform people before they die in serious sin.

I think our point is more so is that if God allowed/encouraged/permitted/facilitated child rape to show His anger He is even less worthy of worship (assuming He does exist, a separate question) than I–for one and I don’t think I’m alone in this–think He is even less worthy of worship than I thought.

It is not, however, like there is no precedent for God messing with children to show His displeasure…
2 Kings 2:23-24:
23 And he [Elisha] went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
