St John Paul II

John Paul II was the first Pope (and maybe last) that I really had any interest in. He became Pope when I was in college (Catholic) so we followed it closely. But more than that, he was so warm and charismatic. Whenever he was on tv, I would watch. I was heartbroken when he died.

I was there too in St. Louis and I also went to Central Park NY when he came. Love JPll

Insignificant question but Im curious now.
It’s often up to public consensus or how those closest to the person may wish to refer to the Saint. For example, here in my state, we have St. Theodora Guérin (officially), but the Sisters of the congregation she founded wanted (and were granted) permission to call her by something they were more accustomed to: St. Mother Theodore — I thought it sounded redundant at first, but I catch myself doing it now.

Many of us prefer “St. John Paul the Great” instead of “the second” 😁

I was in college too, I had made a bet with my Dad that the next Pope after John Paul I would not be Italian,…my dad said it would never happen. Well, it did! And the bet was he had to go with me to a charismatic prayer meeting. Dad came but he surly never wanted to go again to another prayer meeting. 😁 @Irishmom2

I was in HS when he became pope and feel the same way. I just don’t feel the same with Francis nor did I with Benedict.
