My understanding that to the established religious class, Pharisees, etc this animal skin cloaked fellow bathing people in the river and hawking a new gospel of repent and be baptized for the kingdom of God is at hand, was unpopular to say the least. Besides being unpopular with Herod’s wife, could there have been other conspiracies to kill him like the Jews plotted against Jesus?

That said, have there been other ‘John the Baptist’ type heroes who pointed to Jesus? Unpopular, yet truly sent of God?

Will there be such a Herald in the last days before the second coming?

Jesus did save the Apostles from time to time. I seem to recall God (which includes Jesus as part of the Trinity) miraculously freed Peter from prison by sending an angel, and also that John the Evangelist was at some point saved from martyrdom and ended up dying a natural death. However, when it is in God’s plan that a martyr dies, they die, and go on to their heavenly reward.

[John the Baptizer] was unpopular to say the least.
I would disagree, with all due respect.

Mark 1:5 tells us:

People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.

The Jews, including the Pharisees, at the time of John’s brief ministry did not yet know that Jesus would be acknowledged by, an admitted, minority that Jesus was Messiah John was preparing the way for.

So, John’s baptism of water and repentance was not contrary to Jewish teaching.

We learn also from scripture, that even John was not absolutely certain Jesus was the Messiah he was to prepare the people for, as he sent his own disciples to Jesus, after his imprisonment, to ask Jesus if he was the one.

Why Jesus baptized himself by John? After all he was the son of God?
The word in flesh?

I was thinking why Jesus didnt save him and Apostoles?
Oh but he did…as he saved the entire world…The Saints, including the Apostles, and even Jesus himself (as will all of us) experienced biological death. But, we are all afforded the opportunity to be saved, through him, for all eternity.

You are absolutelly correct, but i asked this in a way that biological body of Christ and Mary went in the Heaven, too…as for the sufferings He suffered,Mary, too as all humans.

I posted this on another thread:

You are correct that Jesus did not need John’s baptism because He was without sin and thus had no need of repentance. What I learned was that Jesus gets baptized to show His unity with humanity. He stands in the place of the guilty. Here is an article from the Catholic Answers website that explains it in more detail.

Sorry if I am confused, but Mathew 3:13-17, says John knew right away?

Yes, saving doesn’t mean no suffering in this world. This world is fallen and if one wants to be saved he or she has to grab hold of Jesus’ hand and hold on tight…
