I feel like I need a firm devotion to st Joseph as a Christian (not catholic yet so I’ll just say Christian since I’d be lying if I called myself catholic) man who suffers temptation to lust and struggles to uphold traditional catholic values regarding sexuality, family, and women. Even though I’m single and only 16 I feel called to build a devotion to him. Objectification and unholy viewpoints are so built into my flawed self that I know I’ll never move an inch towards holiness if I don’t have the help of God, Mary, and St Joseph. I already am pretty well off in the two former but I only sometimes pray a short prayer to St Joseph if that. Where should I start?

I like this one, from St. Augustine’s Prayer Book:

“A MEDITATION ON JOSEPH
AS WORKER AND FATHER
Glorious Saint Joseph, example to all who labor, pray for me that I may obtain grace to see
my work as the means by which I contribute to the common good and provide what is
necessary for myself and those who depend upon me.
May I work with joy and gratitude for the skill and strength God gives; and, as I desire a
fair return for my labor, may I stand for all that is just and equitable. Among the many and
conflicting demands I face and in the midst of swiftly moving time, teach me to listen for
God’s call, to serve Christ in all people, and to hold in mind that day when there will be an
accounting for what has been done and left undone.
Guardian of the Incarnate Word, husband and protector of the Blessed Virgin Mary, by
your example, and with the aid of your intercession, let me be obedient to God’s call, gentle
in justice, and brave in danger. Grant that I may spend my strength and energy, my time
and resources, for the well-being and good of those who depend on me, and when those I
love take up paths I do not understand and follow a call that I do not hear, make me patient
and willing to learn. Above all, keep me constant and unwavering in my love toward God
and toward those whose lives are deeply intertwined with mine.”

The other ones from that prayer book:

“A LITANY OF SAINT JOSEPH
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
O Christ, hear us.
O Christ, graciously hear us.
God the Father, maker of heaven and earth, have mercy upon us.
God the Word made flesh, dwelling in the home at Nazareth, have mercy upon us.
God the Holy Spirit, teaching us to fulfill God’s purposes, have mercy upon us.
O Christ hear us.
O Christ, graciously hear us.
Word of God, and the eternal Wisdom of God, humbling yourself to be born and live among
us, glory to you.
Poor, and in a manger, yet hated and feared by Herod, though all things were made by you,
in humility were dependent on Joseph and Mary, glory to you.
Ancient of Days, Alpha and Omega, still you knew the long years of growth and learning;
Lord Jesus, teach us by the example of Joseph to act in justice tempered by kindness, to
be obedient to your call, and to work for the well-being of those committed to our care;
make us faithful in the work you give us to do.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
Blessed Joseph, husband of Mary and guardian of the Incarnate Word, pray for us.
Joseph, who when troubled in mind still intended to act kindly toward Mary,
be our example.
Joseph, willing to hear the angel’s message,
be our example.
Joseph, taking Mary into your heart and under your protection,
be our example.
Joseph, providing for her as best you could,
be our example.
Joseph, presenting Jesus at the temple with Mary his mother,
be our example.
Joseph, taking Mary and the child away from danger and into exile,
be our example.
Joseph, leading them home to Nazareth,
be our example.
Joseph, teaching Jesus to work and to pray,
be our example.
Joseph, taking the child up to the temple at Passover,
be our example.
Joseph, enduring fear and anxiety while searching for the lost child,
be our example.
Joseph, rejoicing to find him even if you did not understand his words,
be our example.
Joseph, by whose care and fatherly work, Jesus grew in wisdom, in years, and in favor
with all,
be our example.
Joseph, at work in the carpenter shop,
inspire us to work for the common good.
Joseph, receiving God’s call and obeying it,
teach us to listen and to respond.
Joseph, in Bethlehem’s stable and exile in Egypt,
open our hearts to the stranger and sojourner.
Joseph, whom Jesus called Father and in whose care he grew to adulthood,
bless our families and sanctify our households.
Joseph, completing your life’s work and dying with Mary and Jesus at your side,
pray for us now and in the hour of our death.
Pray for us, O Holy Joseph,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
O GOD, IN YOUR INEFFABLE providence you called Joseph to be the spouse of the Blessed
O GOD, IN YOUR INEFFABLE providence you called Joseph to be the spouse of the Blessed
Virgin Mary and the guardian of Jesus in the weakness of infancy and childhood: grant that
we, who venerate his faithfulness, may follow the pattern of his life here and rejoice to have
him as an intercessor in heaven, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

And, lastly,

“HYMN TO JOSEPH
Joseph, whose glory fills the Church with praises,
Spouse of the Virgin, Jesus’ foster father,
From the Almighty came your high vocation
Best of protectors.
When the Redeemer, whom the prophets’ chorus
Long had predicted, lay within the manger,
Glad was your spirit, while in adoration
Lowly you knelt there.
Christ, who as king reigns over all creation
Feared in the deepest, worshiped in the highest
Veiling his Godhead, humbly gave obedience
To do your bidding
We praise with fervor God the Bless’d Trinity
We praise with fervor God the Bless’d Trinity
Who has endowed you with abundant graces.
Oh, may God grant us, hearing your petition,
Joys everlasting. Amen.”

Hail Joseph, Son of David, the just and the chaste,
Wisdom is with you;
Blessed are you among all men, and blessed is Jesus,
the fruit of Mary, your faithful spouse.
Holy Joseph, worthy foster-father and
guardian of Jesus Christ and of the holy Church,
pray for us sinners and obtain divine wisdom for us from God,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
- by St Louis de Montfort

You might enjoy reading about St Andre Bessette of Quebec He is a fairly modern day saint and had a profound devotion to St Joseph. He encouraged everyone to pray to Saint Joseph. He is also an incredibly interesting individual in his own right, as well.

you can’t go wrong with St Joseph as he is an extraordinary saint.

there are a variety of ways to devote yourself to St Joseph. One of the main ones is the St Joseph chaplet. I do it weekly. it is an easy one to learn as you do the Apostles’ creed on the cross/medal, glory be and Our Father on the white beeds, and the Hail Joseph prayer on the purple beeds

( Hail to you Joseph, On whom divine grace has showered it’s gifts. Christ the Saviour rested in your arms and grew under your eyes. Blessed are you amongst all men, and blessed is Jesus, the divine Child whom your virgin wife gave you .

Saint Joseph, whom the Son of God received as Father, pray for us, with our problems – in our family, with our health and with our work until our last, and deign to come to our aid at the hour of our death.
Amen).

there is also the sleeping St Joseph which Pope Francis uses

the St Joseph scapular which you can get blessed by capuchin monks…
