St. Lucy of Narnia?

Apparently, it wasn’t just C. S. Lewis’ imagination. There was an actual St. Lucy of NARNIA. Did anybody see this article going around Facebook?

Here’s a snippet of her bio from the article: “Among much else, Lucy of Narnia received the stigmata and became prioress of a convent, before ultimately spending her final four decades locked up by her successor.” … Could she have been locked up by … the White Witch???

I named my daughter after St. Lucy of Rome, so I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Saints Lucy. We actually stumbled upon St. Lucy’s (not of Narnia) tomb and corpus while passing through Venice on our honeymoon.

This is great! Lewis’ fictitious Lucy is the most saintly of all his Pevensie characters (in my opinion). I didn’t know there was a real one.

Strictly speaking there is not a St Lucy of Narnia as Lucia Brocadelli has only been beatified and not canonized. Perhaps she is a saint, but given the 300 years since her beatification she may never be officially recognized as a saint through canonization.

Not trying to be a pain - just clarifying her official status in the path for the cause for sainthood. On the plus side, since Pope Clement XI confirmed her cult through beatification anyone can publicly venerate her and potentially revive her cause for sainthood. Perhaps this story will help revive her veneration and intercessionary prayer that will lead to her being officially declared a saint.
