Scott Hahn & Curtis Mitch, writing in the introduction of the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, The Gospel of Mark, say; “Far from embracing the role of a political leader, Jesus labors to reconfigure messianic expectations through his example of servanthood & suffering. The true Messiah liberates God’s people from the burdens of Satan, sickness & sin-not the yoke of an earthly empire” (Mk 1:27, 24, 41; 2:5, 17; 3:5, 10; 5:41; 7:37)
It seems to me that very little has changed from Mark’s day! We all seem to want a political figure to save us, when the Truth is that only Jesus Christ can save us!
**“and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” **(Mk 13:13)
Jesus is telling us that what the world, the flesh & the Devil sell us is self gratification at the expense of others.
The message Jesus teaches us is the perfect opposite. Give everything you have for others, sacrifice & suffer, as He did, & then you will have eternal life with Him in Heaven.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!
