St. Michael Prayer After Mass?

No need to get snarky. Sacred arias (such as the Ave Maria) played on a pipe organ after mass in a cathedral are hardly “cocktail music”. Please, have a little charity here.

You are blessed to have sacred arias played on a pipe organ in your parish. I have yet to hear sacred arias in our parish, and the organ always is covered up – though the liturgical bongos are in good shape. I’ve heard Chopin played as “please leave silently” exit music – the noise only increased.

I’m not reporting things as I wish they would be – only as I’ve experienced them. This area is noisy.

Then, like the OP, your best response is to make an appointment with your parish priest, to go through the reasons you think the parish should be silent in the sanctuary (charitably, of course), and to ask him to please enforce this as he sees fit. You might even offer some suggestions on how to fix the problem. If playing music only causes the parishoners to get louder, then that’s probably not the right pastoral solution to the problem, but it’s also not the only option.

If the priest desists from doing anything, that’s his perogative, and at that point you can wash your hands of it and say you tried.

The Roman Catholic culture in my area is one of noisiness. Rare is the parish that is silent after Sunday (or Holy Day) Mass – or before or during for that matter. Daily Mass is the exception.

Our parish does this as well, but AFTER the final blessing, before any recessional hymn.

Brendan…I was mistaken in my first post on this thread…Our parish also does the prayer AFTER the final blessing and BEFORE the recessional hymn. Same as your parish. I wasn’t thinking right when I posted…

Does anyone do the St. Michael prayer after Mass to limit the noise? What about the chaplet of St. Michael?

My family says all the Leonine prayers after Mass. (3X Hail Mary, Hail Holy Queen, O God Our Refuge, St Michael the Archangel, 3x Most Sacred Heart of Jesus)

If the noise level is too high, we just say them louder (not to the point of making a spectacle of ourselves, but loud enough so the noise doesn’t distract us)
