Prayer to St. Monica

Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine,
you perseveringly pursued your wayward son
not with wild threats
but with prayerful cries to heaven.
Intercede for all mothers in our day
so that they may learn to draw their children to God.
Teach them how to remain close to their children,
even the prodigal sons and daughters
who have sadly gone astray.

And for all mothers who suffer with anxiety for their wayward children. That those young adults may find the strength to change.
 
Heavenly Father, please alleviate the trials and sufferings of our dear son when we are unable to relieve his difficulties or when our efforts to assist prove unwise.

Continue to bless our son if he abandons relationship with You or drifts from the Church that Jesus instituted for our benefit and for worship of God. Bless us this sorrowing parents, for we tried to teach and support him and continue to pray for him.

We are grieved when his relationships and welfare are threatened. In this era, perhaps the most eroding factor in our loved ones’ lives and relationships is stress, depression, or addictions. Many issues assail them and they are required to work with extraordinary dedication to survive. They may have little leisure to blossom into all they are created to be and to share.

Sometimes difficulties escalate even as we pray and hope. Our anxiety for our son sometimes seems unendurable, testing our trust in God. Please deepen our relationship with You in these trials of the heart.

Heavenly Father, in Your merciful love please carry our son through his labors, his leisure, his joys and trials. Please lift his depression. Let his relationships and life flourish in love, faith, and peace. We consecrate him and ourselves to Your divine mercy, trusting You to work out his salvation. If he are unable to return to You sooner, let his final choice be for Your merciful love. Thank You for Your care of him, even where it is not manifest.

And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

St Monica, pray for our wayward children, and for the families who love them!
 
O glorious St. Monica, transfixed with sorrow when you saw your beloved child Augustine living in the dark and gloomy abyss of error and vice, and straying far from the right path which leads to true felicity in the possession of God and his holy grace, hear our prayer, O afflicted mother.
By that cruel sorrow which, with so much patience, you bore; and by those earnest sighs and bitter tears with which you appealed to God to change the heart of your prodigal son; by your wondrous confidence in God, which was never shaken, O grant to us, your children, that we may, like you, place all our trust in God, and in our trials and troubles be ever resigned to his holy will; while we ask you,

Continued prayers requested. He has been in a psychiatric unit for a month, and continues to improve, but has a long way to go.
 
Prayer of Complete Trust in God

O kind and merciful God, in Your Hands I place my hopes and fears, my likes and dislikes, my happiness and unhappiness, my joys and sorrows. I offer You the needs of my perishable body and the more important ones of my imperishable soul. I do not have to be afraid for my soul as long as I leave it in Your loving care.

Great are my failings and my wretchedness, but even greater is my hope in You. It is stronger than my weakness, greater than my difficulties, and mightier than death.

Though assailed by temptation, I will hope in You. Though I may falter because of weakness, I will continue to trust in You. Though I may not live up to my promises, I will confidently seek grace from You to renew and keep them. Though You may take away my earthly life, even then I will maintain my hope in You.

You are my Father and my God, the ground of my salvation. You are my gracious and loving Father, and I am Your beloved child. I cast myself in Your Arms and ask for Your blessing. I place all my trust in You and I know that I will not be confounded. Amen.
