I knew about St. Anthony. Matter of fact, I think they said that during WW II (?) some damage came to St. Anthony’s relics due to air getting to it. (perhaps in moving?) I never made it to Nevers to see St. Bernadette (missed the train)…but I didn’t know some wax had been used. I’ve seen pics, and her body did look waxy.

However, any idea about Jacinta of Fatima? I know she was not only incorrupt but there was a strong floral or fragrant aroma when her coffin was opened. I was in Fatima but didn’t go up to front of Cathedral to see her (my mini-skirt days, and I was embarassed at the long duster they made me put on :o )
This is apsolutely amazing. How you all know these things. I know these on the basis of my faith, not by knowledge. And I marvel at how you all know these things!! I need to study more! You know, sometimes God just tells us in our heart what is truth, real truth and all this proving that man needs is good. The church needs this so that the unfaithful need t see and the church nneds to make sure it is the truth also. But sometimes, while these souls are on earth, God manifests himself through them, and you just know! Isn’t he wonderful!!

I find it odd that we would continue this. Could you tell me from the ancient time and name them that this was done to in the Old Testament where they did this. What or how does the church determine to fallow things in the O Testament to continue the do’s and don’t’s.

Are we not all called to become “Saints”…Holy? Are we not worshipping saints instead of God our Holy Father and his beloved son our Lord Jesus Christ in these kind of practices? It get relics? Is it only the Catholic Church that does this practice? I ask would God be please with this?

God Bless
As catholics, that is the one falicy we have lived with for so long. Other religions look at us as worshipping idols…saints…statues…relics. We are told by our church never to worship these things as in the old testament did. These are only intersessors. Saints are people as you and I are. One who prays for us, as you would ask your mother or friend. We are all called to be saints, but the church must protect those that our Lord has called to a special level of sainthhood. He used those as a special vessel on earth to call those who have strayed and the church needs to verify and document as to show the world what God wants them to see. This is what has been reveled to me and I hope it helps. Anyone els would like to add or respond, pls do or correct any info too. God Bless you!

If the church has to do this, they must be having doubts themselves and it is not for us to judge them or find these things out. They manifest their faith in how they lived their lives and Jesus can be seen in them. Like Mother Teresa.
I ask is the Catholic Church the only church that does such practices.
Good? Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe. God manifests himself through all of us. We were created in his image. you have more truth when you say "God just tells us in our heart what is truth"like you yourselve have said!

God Bless.

Certain areas of St. Bernadette’s body darkened because of the manner in which the sisters washed her body after it was exhumed and re-dressed not because her body naturally underwent corruption.

Peace.
That is what I read too. I visited Lourdes last year.

So how long would it take an enbalmed body in a good quality coffin to corrupt?

You know, I believe the Catholic Church is the only church that does this practice. It could be from where int he bible Thomas needed to be shown the would of Jesus to be sure it was him who was raised fromt he dead. And Jesus told him “Blessed are those who do not see, but believe for my sake”. Sometimes we all need to be careful, the evil one knows how to play such sly tricks on us, and the church knows this. maybe this is why they exume the bodies to confirm teh sainthood of these human bodies??? Yes, if sainthood is meant to be, in holy hearts, is it usually manifested already on earth! I believe this anyway. Praise God!! God Bless You!

A few years ago I went on a weekend trip (from Ireland) to France with a small group of young people to see the body of Saint Bernadette in Nevers. It was an amazing experience. (She is so small, and you would think that she was going to get up at any moment!) On another occasion, a few of us went to see Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Therese in Paris.

The suggestion that such practice is a form of worship is unfortunate. We love God above all things, but surely we can have a great affection for ordinary people, such as our family members, and even saints.

We are all called to become saints and to actually see such saints in the face is inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone. It makes you realise that they were actually real people, just like you or I - but they were extaordinary in their love of God.

We learn along the way - reading something or visiting a shrine. If you’re interested in learning more about this, there’s a well-known book called, “The Incorruptibles”, which details many more.

God bless you,

Planter,
Under the apologetics forum, there are several threads that are currently addressing the questions you asked about praying to saints. I would direct my questions there 🙂
