I was looking online about our dear St Padre Pio and came across a very sobering letter (written 1950) about 3 days of darkness and reading this looked very much as if it is for our day in which we are living…could anyone give me any information regarding this…it sounds as if it really could be in our days. Is there any clarification to this…I am consideing this as a warning…what are you thoughts and that of the Church?

My love in Him,

I think the 3 days is suspect, and Pio’s endorsement of it doesn’t make it any less so.

My wife once read the book “3 days of darkness” and became very paranoid and wanted me to promise her in advance all this stuff about candles and keeping the shades drawn, etc.

I have respect for Pio, and had the pleasure of hearing a homily from a priest who had attended a private Mass with him.

But this I don’t believe. And as I understand, we are not to consider a saintly writing about a vision they received, as actual Catholic teachings.

There are a few things about him that I question, but I don’t know enough of his story to feel confident in asserting them very strongly. But I take nearly zero stock in it, except for any metaphorical or moral meaning it may have.

Even the writings of a saint are not infallible unless that saint was pope.

The 3 days of darkness are not formal Church teaching.

Not so. Very little of what a pope says/writes is infallible. Look up what qualifies an infallible proclamation from a pope.

Many great saints have testified of the 3 days of darkness. It’s really going to happen. But I don’t think it’s soon from now. Just after our during the time of the future prophesied third world war.

True, not everything a pope says is infallible, but infallible teaching in Saintly writings doesn’t even factor unless they were pope.

I’ve searched for this and many said that it is just a forgery. I think there is no written record/book coming from Padre Pio about the 3 Days of Darkness.

But in other Saints like Saint Faustina, there is in the end times where the sky will be all dark and the Sign of the Cross will be the one only seen in the sky. See her book “Divine Mercy in My Soul.”

My 2 cents: (nothing official, just my musings)

Everyone goes through a time when they have to make a decision to follow God, no matter how much we get pressure from others, or society, or in really tough times. These times can be a “darkness” if you will.
Numbers hold great meanings in Scripture. Three is a symbol of perfection.
Our ultimate good choice, the right choice, the only choice for Catholics and Christians is to follow Christ.
When we go through 3 dark days, and we choose Him above all else, …we’ll come out as true warriors for Christ.

God bless everyone.
Padre Pio, pray for us!

What is needed is to apply the 3 days of darkness TO THE CHURCH,
that she needs to find her betrothed IN THE DARK with loveless and
lukewarm members, that she needs to WAKE UP and get dressed and ready to
meet her bridegroom by treasuring her Poor and pray for them whom God
has chosen to be rich in Faith, and to HELP THEM come to independence
financially!!!

Good point! 👍

Years ago when the 3 days of darkness was a big thing going around and saying Padre Pio endorsed it, our Padre Pio group leader wrote to the Padre Pio Foundation and asked about it and they sent her a letter stating that Padre Pio never said anything about it. That is a myth. So don’t believe everything you hear. Many so called predictions attach them selves to a famous person or event just to seem more creditable. God Bless, Memaw

I don’t believe Padre Pio actually endorsed the 3 Day Darkness–if I remember, he has wrongly been attached to the prophecy by someone saying it was him. Further, it is not official church teaching.

With that said, I have to admit… the idea of it terrifies me. I don’t necessarily believe in it, but it scares me!

I believe it is literal as there are at least a dozen saints who have predicted that there will be three days of darkness and the air will be thick with pestilence.

These three days may correspond to an event predicted by St Hildegarde who said a comet will pass by the earth and cause the coastlines to flood. That sounds rather literal to me.

In any case there is nothing to fear because that means our salvation is at hand and Jesus is soon to return!

Many say that as the end times approach the 10 plagues of Egypt will be repeated as God purifies the Earth. The 3 days of darkness was the final plague and it was literal.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

10:22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days

Before the Comet comes, many nations, the good excepted, will be scourged with want and famine. The great nation in the ocean that is inhabited by people of different tribes and descent by an earthquake, storm and tidal waves will be devastated. It will be divided, and in great part submerged. That nation will also have many misfortunes at sea, and lose its colonies in the east through a Tiger and a Lion. The Comet by its tremendous pressure, will force much out of the ocean and flood many countries, causing much want and many plagues. All sea coast cities will be fearful and many of them will be destroyed by tidal waves, and most living creatures will be killed and even those who escape will die from a horrible disease. For in none of these cities does a person live according to the laws of God.

Great post, I totally agree, that is definitely speaking of the US, its sad to see so many people refusing to accept such a thing, or to blow it off as a metaphor.

Strange there is alot of talk of a comet in mid-late Sept this year. I guess we will see!

Are we doing a “Can you top this”??? The only thing we need to really fear is the state of our soul. And the Catholic Church has the cure for that. Why don’t we learn from the Approved Apparitions?? Like Devotion to the Sacred Heart, Fatima, Guadalupe, and Divine Mercy. Instead of chasing after unapproved stuff. We would be the wiser to do so, I think. God Bless, Memaw

I believe St Hildegarde’s writings though private revelation seem pretty accurate.

Akita is an approved Marian apparition and the message was that fire will fall from the sky and wipe out a great part of humanity. Is the fire falling from the sky literal or something spiritual? She also said it will be bishop against bishop and cardinal against cardinal. It is already happening as the lines are being drawn in regards to family and marriage. The number of priests andbishops who oppose Church teaching and accept homosexual acts is growing. Their rational is “social justice”.

I think Akita has the Bishops approval but not the Church’s “Worthy of Belief” statement. If all these predictions actually happened, either all at once or even one after the other, who could survive?? I still think we need to pay more attention to the Church approved devotions and TRUST God. God Bless, Memaw

The bishop in whose diocese an alleged apparition occurs is the one with authority. The Vatican only intervenes if necessary.

The bible says that if those days are not shortened no flesh will be saved… So it seems like it is supposed to get bad to purify the Earth.

The message of Akita is said to be the same as Fatima: turn from sin and do penance as the time of mercy may be nearly over and the time of justice beginning.

If that’s true then why are tho ones the Popes have visited and talk about frequently, are the ones the Vatican found “Worthy of Belief”. There is a difference! God Bless, Memaw
