St. Peter's Denial of Christ and How He Strengthened the Bretheren

Mark 14: 30-31: Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said vehemently, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.

Luke 22:31-34 31"Simon, Simon! Remember that Satan has asked for you, to sift you all like wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may never fail. you in turn must strengthen your brothers,"
Acts 3:14-21
14 You denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 The author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses. 16 And by faith in his name, this man, whom you see and know, his name has made strong, and the faith that comes through it has given him this perfect health, in the presence of all of you. 17 Now I know, brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, 7 just as your leaders did; 18 but God has thus brought to fulfillment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. 19 Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away, 20 and that the Lord may grant you times of refreshment and send you the Messiah already appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of universal restoration of which God spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old.
St Peter could only be confident as he encouraged his listeners to “repent” as they had: “acted out of ignorance.” in denying our Lord, “the Holy and Righteous One” and requesting that a murderer be released to you. St Peter could preach on the fact that
their sins could be wiped away and they could receive a time of refreshment and God would send them the Messiah, Jesus.

When Jesus met Simon at the beginning of John, He didn’t see the man who thought he could walk on water, He saw the man who would preach in the face of Jewish (and later Roman) adversity!

John 18:15-16-27 – near a fire of coals, Peter denied Jesus 3 times.

John 21:9-19 – near a fire of coals, over breakfast, Peter renewed his faith to Jesus 3 times and Jesus accepted it and commanded Peter to feed and tend His flock. Here Jesus also told Peter how he would die glorifying God.

Peter who denied Jesus 3 times also redeemed his faith 3 times and what is more he died in the name of Jesus. How many times have we heard similar stories of martyrs who denied God, repent then gave their lives for Jesus? It is our faith that these people are Saints and they are in the Kingdom of God.

If once you have sinned, you cannot get into Heaven, then Jesus came into the world in the flesh is pointless. It is God’s salvation plan so that we are reunited with Him is His Kingdom.

Peter strengthened his brethren by reconciling his soul to Christ. By being a witness of Christ’s Mercy. Satan sifted Peter. Weakened his faith , to deny Jesus three times. Peter discovered how dependent he is how vulnerable and utterly worthless when the moment of proof came. He saw the boundary of himself and found himself wanting. Peter strengthened his brethren through his weakness. This showed them Christ’s love when Peter was still able to approach Jesus in reconciliation. He suffered a test of the faith of all of us. Our faith was tested and it didn’t fail because Jesus prayed.
