St. Pius X' plenary indulgence on Montfort's Consecration to Mary formula

St. Pius X declared his dependence on de Montfort’s writing in the composition of his own Marian encyclical, Ad diem illum and granted a plenary indulgence in perpetuum (in perpetuity) for those who recite de Montfort’s formula of Marian consecration.

So does this mean if I recite Montfort’s formula, I receive plenary indulgence** forever** or do I have to recite it everyday? Are there still other conditions set by St. Pius X ?

Each time one consecrates himself in this way, and each time one renews his consecration, provided the other “usual” conditions are met, one can obtain a plenary indulgence.

Why would one want more than one? First, because they might have sinned since the previous one; second, because they might apply them to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

What are the usual conditions?
  1. Prayer for the Pope’s intentions,
  2. Sacramentsl Confession (within 8 days, iirc).
  3. Sacramentsl Communion (on the day),
  4. No attachment to sin.
As you can see, the last condition can be very difficult to achieve!

But if one cannot manage all of these, one still obtains a partial indulgence.

By within 8 days with the Sacrament of Confession does it also mean before or after Confession?

What if today you took up the Consecration, and you take up the Sacrament of Confession only after 2 days, would the plenary indulgence still be valid?

I am not sure what you mean by “taking up,” but… say you go to Confession on Saturday the 15th, you would be covered from the 8th to the 23rd. If you go to Confession every two weeks, you will always have that requirement filled, with a bit of an overlap. (look at a calendar to see how well this works 🙂 )

“Within 8 days” means any one of the 8 days before or any one of the 8 days after.
 
As an example, I will renew my consecration on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Dec. 8th. I can go to Confession from the 1st of December to the 16th for that renewal. Since it is a Holy Day of Obligation, I am already going to Mass; I should get into the habit of praying for the Pope’s intentions daily, then all I would need to worry about is freedom from attachment to sin!

St. Francis, regarding for praying for the intentions of the Pope, some people say 3 Hail Marys.

My own style is I pray for the intentions of Pope with 1 Decade of the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, do you think that is okay?

It’s not specified, so I would say sure! But who am I? A random stranger on the internet 🙂 So, to be sure, you could ask your priest after Mass, just hang out til everyone has said thank you and goodbye to him. There will probably be a few others who also have questions.
