I would like to share my experience and testify to the power of prayer. Not long ago my girlfriend, whom I was expecting to get married to, dumped me. She had started seeing someone else and I was out. Whatever our past lives had been before we met (she had a past, and mine was nothing to brag about), the two years we were together were a blessing in terms of purity. We both wanted (and did) remain pure together… easily (and it had nothing to do with lack of attraction, believe me). But we trusted in God and took things seriously. We received the sacraments often (confession and communion) and absolutely avoided playing with fire. (Who said “pray as if it all depends on God, and act as if it all depends on you”).
The thing is, when she dumped me several things happened which strongly seemed to indicate that she slept with him. Strong alarm signals. At one point, I was told that she had shared a room with him on a several day trip together that they made abroad.
When I started seeing signals I became terribly worried for her; that she may have committed a mortal sin. No matter if she didn´t want me. I didn´t want her to put her soul in peril, and would have given my life for that. My anguish led me to pray… a lot. In daily Mass and otherwise. I would like to mention my prayers to St. Rita of Cascia, patroness of impossible causes. All and any Saints will hear our prayer, for sure, but I mention her specifically because she is one of the main saints I resorted to for intercession. After a few weeks, her sister, (who an hour before had had a very grim view on the issue), called me and said “I have good news! She has not slept with this man. She made it clear to him that they are going to follow her rules, and that means no sex before marriage”. I know it is a reliable source. The biggest relief is that she has not fallen into sin, and that´s all that matters.
I attribute this, when all evidence was contrary, to prayer, especially by the intercession of Mary, St Joseph and Saint Rita (among other saints). Blessed be Saint Rita of Cascia. I recommend you read about this wonderful Italian saint. Thank you, St Rita!
