This might belong in another forum but since I’m Non-Catholic I’ll put it here.
For those of you who don’t know, St. Roche is the patron of dogs and those who love dogs.
Silly huh.

I have a rule - when I meet someone who doesn’t like dogs I usually think of them as sociopaths. They usually fulfill that expectation in time - and I don’t trust them.
I love cats, but I really love dogs; treat em right and you have a friend.
In fact there’s no such thing as a Bad Dog; just a dog with a Bad Master. People hurt them and mistreat them for nothing, so what do you expect of them?
In fact-fact a happy home can have as a hallmark resident cats and dogs who get along like family - and since the dog can usually kill the cat, guess which one is rising above their baser nature?

Dogs - give them a little kindness and a morsel to eat, and they’re loyal friends until their last heartbeats.
Friendly, forgiving, loving, protective - like Christians ought to be.
God must love dogs - he sure made a lot of them.

St Roche is a French saint; he was a nobleman who followed the Lord’s way of poverty, giving up his privilege and wealth to serve the poor.
While on pilgrimage he was caught in a plague area, and began to treat the sick - until he too came down with plague.
In keeping with his noble nature he went to the deep woods to die without being a risk or burden to others.
While there a dog found him, and licked his wounds; the dog also brought him bread from his master’s table. The master observed this strange behavior and tracking the dog found Roche - who recovered from the plague while being ministered to by the dog.

When Roche returned to France the dog went with him. There was civil war, and Roche was imprisoned as a suspected spy - along with his canine friend.

Roche ministered to sick prisoners until his death in prison. Only then were documents found on him revealing he was a nobleman of France. Such humility is worthy of the grace of God, praise Him.
I don’t know what happened to the Dog.
God bless him.

For cures credited to his prayers, Roche was canonized.
I have no problem asking the Noble Son of France for help when one of my good boys is sick - or has lost the last battle.

For St. Roche;
“they are our friends, partners, protectors, ever loyal, all forgiving to their heart’s last beat - the least we owe them is to live a life worthy of their devotion”.

God bless you all.
God bless all Dogs.

I have never met a Protestant who prayed to a Saint before, let alone have his signature to St. Anthony. I am glad you have faith in our Saints Anthony, but tell me, why are you not Catholic?
Also, there are dogs (I am a dog lover too), who just have that way with them like pit bulls. Pit bulls are just dangerous dogs if you ask me. It isn’t their owners, they are just born with that streak.

Welcome to CAF…🙂

I have never thought about this, but, now that you mention it, it is true to the people I know.

Booyah - bigtime.

I have a Pit Bull - if another dog picks a fight with him look out - but he tries to ride off in the back of any pickup truck he sees - licking the face of the stranger driving it.
I rescued him so he’d never have to fight in a cockpit for the amusement of My Kind.

I only recognize the church of those who Love the Lord above all else. Don’t recall seeing anywhere in the Bible that I can’t respect what the Catholic church claims as its own.
I don’t pray to Roche, I ask him to ask the Lord for a favor on my sick friend’s behalf - friends do that for each other.

You can keep your Catholic and Protestant churches; they don’t do a thing for me but get me mixed up in their silly arguments.

God bless you.

Anthony, asking a saint for a favor is the same thing as praying to him. Don’t fret over that statement, it’s all good. 🙂

nope nope nope

when St Roche needed help a dog helped him - he owes them, so he’s paying a debt not doing a favor.
The Lord gives the favor.
Credit where credit’s due please.
We’re just good buddies looking out for our mutual friends.

git in the back you dang Pit Bull!
yabbadabbadoooooooooooo…

God bless you.

I.
or someone who was badly hurt by a dog as a child and has a phobia

still it is a nice story, thanks

Sorry to hear that Annie.
When I was a young rascal dogs hated my guts. I’d try to pal up to my dad’s dog and he’d bite the tar out of me - Dad would laugh “I told you!”.
But in the fullness of time I put away puppy stuff and became a Big Old Dog.
Then I knew how to act around them and they’ve loved me ever since.
Usually when a dog doesn’t like kids it’s because a kid hurt them when they were pups - and some never get over it.
You’ll never get along with them until you lose your old fear Annie. They sense it and it puzzles them.

“Never give your heart to a dog to rend”.
A wise man said that.

God bless you Annie.

The idea the prayer = worship is a modern concept. Pray really just means “to ask”. Catholics don’t pray to Saints in the way that a Protestant understand praying. Like you stated we’re asking them to pray to for us. You are correct that God through His Son Jesus Christ is the one who answers prayers. We’re actually in agreement on this the poster was just trying to clarify our position as people often misunderstand it.

Also favor wasn’t mean as anything more than if I asked you pray for me you would be doing me a “favor”. We both would understand though that God is the one that will present the results.

Not that it is important - but I feel it honorable to make known the one in my signature is St Anthony the Great, Desert Father of the great and holy Coptic Christian church - and my spiritual guide.

-of which I am not a member either.

Guide me Abba Anthony.
Praise God

God bless you all.

I still don’t understand how a Protestant would believe in the saints…🤷

I would like to help you Cathdefender but you’ll have to ask a Protestant that question - I can’t speak on their behalf as I’m not Protestant.

God bless you.

Your profile thingy says otherwise mate.

well then I must be a liar perhaps? I know you’re not suggesting that of course

someday you are going to have to accept that there are Christians who want no part of the Catholic/Protestant blood feud thingy mate - hopefully more of them in future - many someday all of them

I guess I’ll have to amend that profile to “Independant”
mmmmm … nah

Live with it.

God bless you.

Live with it.
I’ll do that then, to be honest it makes no difference to me what the Protestants choose to call themselves these days, they are what they are.

FYI it isn’t a blood feud, otherwise I’m the product of a fairly odd Romeo and Juliet story.

God bless you as well.

Anthony, don’t call someone a liar if your profile says Protestant and you state that you are not. I’d say that makes YOU a liar.

wow - so now I’m a liar and a secret protestant infiltrator

always answer insults or curses with a blessing

God bless you

I’m outta here
