I received this prayer as part of a chain mail email. Does anyone know if it really is from St Theresa?

Saint Theresa’s Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be .
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

i know this might sound weird… but i have been having the thought for a while that i should do St. Therese’s novena… i saw the post on roses and thought that maybe she was telling me to do it… then decided it was just my paranoia…

yesterday again i felt it and today in the morning too… i finally told her… if you want me to do it, let someone post something about you on the forum and i will do it…

and here i see this post in the afternoon… is that amazing or what!!!

👍 👍

she does want me to pray about it… so here goes my dear st. Therese…

I send that thing directly to the trash every time I receive it, which is fairly frequently. The writing style is nothing like St. Therese, and I object strongly to the chain letter aspect.

You’re right, Betsy. It reads more like something from Kahlil Gibran.

All prayers sent in a chained email are beautiful; however, some of the messages written by the senders are the ones that annoyed me.

Is it necessarily from St Therese the Little Flower though? Could it be St Teresa of Avila? St Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein)? St Teresa of the Andes? Any one of the other dozen-odd Saints named Teresa, Theresa or Therese???

I completely agree. This prayer sounds like it’s trying to sound like a St Teresa of Avila prayer. It is a shame that someone would start a chain mail like that falsely attributing their own prayer to St Theresa. Maybe somebody misunderstood “sounds like a St. Theresa prayer” to be “is a St Theresa prayer” somewhere along the way.

The writing style is transparently modern and colloquial. The actual author tries too hard going “over the top” reaching for “beautiful” images. The beauty of St Teresa of Avila’s prayer is in it’s mysterious simplicity.

Somewhere I read this prayer is attributed to Mother Theresa… not a Saint Theresa.
