Why is Saint Vitus considered to be the Saint of comedians? I read his biography on a website and it doesn’t say anything that might link him to comedians or comedy.

And another question: Is Saint Genesius of Rome real? I read his bio also and it says that it’s an old legend, but it’s just a legend. How can we cannonize someone from a legend?

Thanks

In regards to St. Genesius of Rome, he might be a legend. But, even so his existence cannot be disproven. However, it does not mean he is true or not true. He was not canonized by the Pope I believe.

I don’t know about Vitus.
But here.

I always thought that the funniest pontiff on record, Pope St Hilarius, should be the patron saint of comedians.

**Thanks for the link to St. Vitus. **

I never thought about looking him up. I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and Dystonic Spasms. I was examined by an old timy doctor several years ago, and he almost shouted after a few moments of thought:
“I know what you have, it’s St. Vitus Dance.” Well it was interesting when I got him and looked it up, that it is related to one of the three disorders that one of the top movement disorder doctors in this country told me I had. So old country doctors know their stuff :D.

Someone with Dystonic Spasms can look or act kind of funny, I know I do when they set in, maybe thats why they link him to comedians.

Anyway, I really need to ask St. Vitus to intecede for us.

THANKS!!!

With a name like Vitus, you have to have a sense of humor.

Patronal saints are an interesting thing. Sometimes they become patrons for something that they seemingly had nothing to do with during their life. St. Cecelia wasn’t a musician, for example.
