Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A good meditation for this Holy Week is the Hymn, “Stabat Mater”. See HERE

Maybe you’ve memorized some stanzas, but may we all seek to ponder the sufferings of Jesus and Mary with greater love this week. Mary is both Mother and Model for the Church. By God’s grace may we, in spirit, stand with Mary, at the foot of His Cross.

This is a very beautiful hymn. I remember while growing up singing this during the stations of the cross. After the prayers of every station we would sing a stanza.

I hope you don’t mind me adding this video link. It is such a beautiful hymn and it is sung so beautifully here.

Dear Magdalena,

Thanks so much for the link to the video. I watched and listened to the beautiful music. I’m glad they included the Enlish subtitles along with the Latin in which the hymn was sung. The artwork was beautiful as well.

Yes, I too remember days in Catholic Grade school when every Friday in Lent we went to Church after school at 3 pm for the “Stations” and sang a stanza of this hymn after prayers at every station. We sing it still at “Stations of the Cross” in our present parish, each Friday during Lent.

Dear johnnyc, and Jen,

Thank you both for the links to classical composers who have written settings of the Stabat Mater. Music and Art are such gifts from God to express His Beauty. Mary is His “Masterpiece” as St. Louis de Montfort wrote in his little treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary”,
