I will speak from the experience of having worked in Behvior Modification Clinics for some time.
We did use hypnosis as a TOOL to help the patient to correct bad habits for the most part.
Over 60% of the patients were children and teens.
Hypnosis is not magical nor doed the will of the hypnotist overpower the subject.
What is hypnosis?
The more intelligent the subject the better they can concentrate thus they are hypnotised faster.
What happens is that the conscience and the unconscience mind is able to comminicate more efficiently. It is a fact that the subject will not do anything that they normally wouldn’t do unless the practitioner fools the subject. If you asked a lady to remove her skirt - she would not unless she thought she was at home in her bedroom. Do you understand?
Our work was to teach better study habits, to stop pulling their hair, to stop saying cuss words or to write more legibally.
An unscrupulous, evil hypnotist can do harm. But the TOOL hypnosis is not morally wrong, even the Vatican agrees it has it’s place.
Every Sunday a psychiatrist who does hypnosis sits near me in Church and he is a good Catholic.
