Finances, my foot! This was built by German immigrants in a tiny little town at the turn of the last century, and they didn’t have a lot of money (most of what looks like marble is actually cleverly painted wood).
Funny thing – the altars in my church are in the process of being cleaned and restored, and some of what was thought to be “cleverly painted wood” has turned out to be marble. 😃

My church has beautiful stained glass windows, but I can’t find any pictures of them.

I had some great pics of the windows, but I have no clue where I put them  I do have a picture of the Rose window. Its breathtaking this time of year with the sun in the southern sky.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help has some very lovely windows also, as does Guardian Angel.

Just kidding. . . .

Anyways, I’ve noticed that many of the newer Catholic Churches are a little lacking in the stained glass department.

So I’m trying to compile a list of the Catholic Churches with the most beautiful stained glass, so that my family can check these out when we are in the vicinity.

Here are a few I know of:

Pine Hurst, NC (can’t recall the name of the church)
Belmont Abbey, NC
Johanna, SC St. Bonafice
Cheraw, SC St. Peters
Greenville, SC St. Mary’s
St. Gabriel’s Church (daily Mass Chapel), Charlotte, NC (sorry, no link for photos).

St. Francis Cathedral - Santa Fe, NM
Holy Rosary - Portland, OR
St. John’s - Middletown, CT
St. Sebastian’s - Middletown, CT
Sacred Heart - New Haven, CT
St. Mary’s - New Haven, CT

That is all that I can think of at the moment that has not already been mentioned.

Believe it or not, my nomination is a newly built Church in Houston. The architecture isn’t all that edifying (although not the worst I have seen) but their stained glass windows are magnificent. It is St. John Vianney’s parish on the west side.

Another truly spectacular church for stained glass is St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church in Birmingham, AL. It’s so good, they give tours! (On occasions it’s featured on EWTN.)

Immaculate Conception, Jacksonville, Florida
Here is a link to a photograph of the Staines Glass behind our altar. It really dosen’t do it justice, but I don’t have another. www.immaculateconceptionjax.org/contact.ivnu .The Stained Glass actually goes all the way down both sides of the Church walls, with Stations of the Cross in between. The Stained Glass Windows were made in Munich, Germany by the Mayer Stained Glass Company, somewhere between 1904-1910. Right now we are having fund drives to repair the tiny cracks that have appeared 😦 in our beautiful windows.
The same company made the windows for St Mary’s in Greenville SC, my church. Check out the website, you can see the almost identical Crucifixion scene. www.stmarysgvl.org

Holy moly! This is my parish…the raddest, greatest, superest-duperest place in the whole world with the best shepherds! uh…in my humble opinion…😉

Small world!!! I used to go there with my family when we lived down there for homeschooling events. CRAZY!

We now live in IL, and I would recommend Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Naperville, if you are ever up in the area. BEAUTIFUL CHURCH! But I’m sure there are plenty more beautiful ones in the area. St. John Cantius is a beautiful Polish Catholic church in Chicago, I believe, but I only heard this from my parents so I don’t know what their stainedglass looks like.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I have been trying to find out what that beautiful parish was that EWTN featured during the 5th mystery of the old televised Rosary. I have been wondering this since I was 12 years old and first started watching that channel. I am 35 now, having been a Catholic since I was 17, and now I finally know where this church with all the windows is! I never would have guessed it was Maronite!

In my (admittedly limited) experience Maronite churches aren’t often that different architecturally from Latin Catholic churches.

I’ve only been to one Maronite church, and it had originally been a Presbyterian church, but they fixed it up with icons and a Latin-style altar, as well as many glass, oil-burning lamps.

St Mark’s Parish in Catonsville, MD (on the Western edge of Baltimore)

They have a “chapel” (the old church – built in the 1880s) and the main church (built 1962) which both have splendid stained glass windows. From what I understand, the ones used in the main church were originally in a school in downtown Baltimore.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gaffney SC has some beautiful
windows too!
