Here are some modern windows I find quite beautiful. This is Westminster Abbey in Mission, British Columbia, and was built by the Benedictines who had earlier established the community as a daughter house of Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. I believe the church was built in the mid-60’s and is one of the few instances of “noble simplicity” that actually lives up to the phrase. The blue-hued windows are on the east side of the church to catch the morning sun, while the red-hued windows are on the west side. They also have a ring of ten English bells which are pealed by the monks every Sunday. The photo belongs to the following site, where more can be seen:

Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY has some incredible windows.

Here is a link to what is believed to be the largest stained glass church window in the world.

What a magnificent cathedral! Why can’t we have churches like this in the West, instead of the Taj Mahoney and St. Mary of the Maytag?

D’ya think they could slide that organ a few feet to the right?😃

The stained glass windows at Holy Ghost in Knoxville are magnificent. Behind the main altar is the Holy Ghost window. It was so wonderful to go to Mass there with the earlier pastor, Fr. Henkel, may he rest in peace. The stations of the cross there are also beautiful and were carved by a firm from south Tirol.
Fr. Henkel is rolling in his grave. I don’t know but what he comes to haunt the church due to the shoddy liturgy. Unfortunately Fr. Henkel’s successor is trying and has succeeded to a great extent in demolishing traditonal parctice and worship through intimidation and downright lack of charity and with no concern for devotion to the Real Prescence of our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. He is a bad shepard, I’m sorry to say, and needs lots of prayer for His soul and souls of the flock for whom he has been and continues to be a stumbling block.

Here’s a link to St. Ann, Coppell, Texas whose permanent church and chapel was dedicated October 2001. We have “new” buildings with stained glass! The parishioners were allowed to sponsor just about everything except the restrooms. They even asked for 88 people to sponsor keys on each of the grand pianos. I believe one of the huge windows was donated anonymously by one very generous family. Even us “almost Catholics” who were in RCIA during construction pitched in and bought the huge Easter candle holder. New structures can be beautifully built if the parishioners get fired up and pitch in.

It’s a true joy to celebrate mass early in the morning and watch the morning sun light up the Holy Ghost window behind/above the altar. Very inspiring.
