For a hypothetical chapel which would serve a TLM/EF community, which saints should be depicted in it’s twelve stained-glass windows?

Guidelines.
  • The chapel will be used for daily Mass, all Sacraments, morning and evening prayers, all in the pre-V2 forms.
  • The twelve windows will have traditional vertical orientation, located on side walls, positioned above eye level.
  • Main chapel will seat 432 from three aisles. Choir loft will seat 48 from a central aisle.
  • Everyone faces true east. All stained-glass windows will be visible from every seat.
  • Only those saints who are listed in the “Alphabetical Index of the Feasts of the Saints” in the 1962 Missal are eligible.
  • Please nominate both male and female saints.
  • Former Supreme Pontiffs are not eligible.
For this thread, it is not necessary to nominate Our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St.Peter or St. Paul. Locations have already been established for them in paintings and statuary throughout the chapel.
 
hmm, the Cathedral where I attend Mass, has old testament figures on one side and new testament figures and Saints on the other.

Ester, Gideon, Daniel, (these are the ones I sit next to:D) also, Joshua, Aaron, Elijah

On the other side I know Saint Agatha, … hmm I don’t remember anyone else, (I guess I never sit over there) I will gave to check next week for you and get back to you.

I’m not sure for all of them but saint Teresa of Lisieux defiantly!
 
Are the windows only going to be dedicated to Biblical figures and saints, or are windows representing scenes from the Bible eligible as well?

Oh for heaven’s sake - **twelve **windows? And you need to ask? It’s been done before, but here are two schemes:
  • top halves of windows are the twelve patriarchs (that is, the 12 sons of Jacob), bottom halves are the 12 apostles
  • or, whatever the top 12 financial backers want for their windows!

St. Therese of the Child Jesus (Lisieux) is celebrated on October 1st. I believe it was changed some time ago.
 
Can multiple figures be represented on one window? For example, a single window dedicated to Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael?

Sure. But I’m kind of partial to the scene of Michael with Satan underfoot.
 
12 windows:

First three - Representing the Old Testament
  1. Gabriel / Michael / Raphael together (or, Michael with Satan underfoot)
  2. Abraham
  3. Moses
Second three - Representing the New Testament
  1. John the Baptist
  2. Matthew / Mark / Luke / John together (perhaps using their symbols)
  3. Mary Magdelene
Last six - Representing post-Biblical saints (chronologically, oldest to most recent)
  1. St. Benedict
  2. St. Augustine
  3. St. Thomas Aquinas
  4. St. Francis of Assisi
  5. St. Teresa of Avila
  6. St. Therese of Lisieux
(A couple of these may be chronologically out-of-order.)

Seems OK at first glance, but do we really need twelve different poses of Saint Josemaría Escrivá?

Why? I know this is a hypothetical chapel, but is there any particular reason why certain great saints of the Church should be automatically ruled out because God raised them to the papacy? I’m not saying that there is a particular pontiff-saint I would like to see depicted - Peter, of course, is an exception - but surely pontiffs such as Pope Saint Pius X or Pope Celestine V would be as worthy as any other saints?

Perhaps a window can be held in reserve for the Pope who puts the Novus Ordo in its rightful place.

Or how about simply for the reason that a canonised pope was - and still is - a model of holiness and faithfulness to Christ, as were Pope Saint Celestine V and Pope Saint Pius X…By their canonisation we are assured that they are in heaven and can intercede to God for us, and are thus as worthy of veneration as any other saint.
