I understand that the SSPX has been having some dialogue with Rome. Has any progress been made? What is their current stance within the Catholic Church?

While their clergy are indeed considered validly ordained, the ordinations are still considered illicit. The clergy of the SSPX do not have faculties to exercise ministry. They are essentially clergy without status.

Statement by Pope Benedict XVI (emphasis added):
As long as the Society does not have a canonical status in the Church, its ministers do not exercise legitimate ministries in the Church…. In order to make this clear once again: until the doctrinal questions are clarified, the Society has no canonical status in the Church, and its ministers – even though they have been freed of the ecclesiastical penalty – do not legitimately exercise any ministry in the Church.
They validly baptize, consecrate the Eucharist, and administer the last rites to those in danger of death. Faculties are required to validly hear confessions and witness a marriage so these sacraments would be invalid.
