Stand-Up Comedians?

My husband and I like stand-up as a medium, but frequently the material or the comedian is wayyyyyy too raunchy for our taste.

Any suggestions on “clean” comics that are also actually funny? We really like Jim Gaffigan.

(“Clean” to us means that the bulk of the material isn’t adult - though some humor about adult things is totally fine, that there isn’t a lot of vulgarity. If it were movie ratings, probably mostly PG with the occasional veering into PG-13 territory OK. :p)

Also, people who ignorantly rip on the Church are not appreciated, although to our knowledge there aren’t many who do that who stay in PG-rated territory. 😉
 
Steer clear of Louis C.K., who’s about as vulgar and anti-Catholic as George Carlin. I hear good things about Brian Regan, however. He’s known for being clean.

You know, it’s too bad about Louis C.K. Because his stuff that isn’t vulgar, is actually really funny IMO. But then he gets vulgar again and I’m like, “Come on, man. You’re smarter than this.” There’s some people where the vulgarity and shock value is all they have. But then others who legitimately have something funny to say, but muck it up for whatever reason.
 
I have seen a couple of Jim Breur’s comedy specials and those weren’t raunchy. One was on t.v. so in all fairness the raunchy parts may have been edited out. The other special I saw was on Netflix so it was unedited and it was hilarious and clean.
 
John Pinette. He was a hefty guy, one of his catchphrases was “Nay, nay!” Did hilarious routines about waterparks and all-you-can-eat buffets. Did a pretty half-decent Michael Jackson, too.

Mitch Hedberg. He was sort of like a redneck Steven Wright, with his jokes delivered with a rather weird sort of cadence. The odd F-bomb, but I don’t recall any raunch at all.

Jimeoin. Irish transplant to Australia. Observational comedy. Everything I ever saw was squeaky-clean. He did do toilet humour once, but it was literally a joke about a toilet.

Derek Edwards. Comedian from Timmins, Ontario. Again, I heard an F-bomb once, but it’s not peppered through his stuff. My favourite comedian.
 
Gotta draw the line somewhere. The mislabeled F-bomb is one line that should never be crossed. Robin Williams - who went from clever and clean (may he rest in peace) - later decided to join the crowd. That’s when he crossed the line with foul language.

Jim Breuer.

He’s Catholic and mentions it in some of his standup. He doesn’t really do the R rated stuff, but he’s great at impressions!
 
Tim Hawkins is hilarious. I have spent way to much time on YouTube watching him.
 
I cried from laughing so hard when I first saw John Pinette. Though his material hits close to home so it was easy to identify with.

As I recall, Demitri Martin was clean. I loves me some graph-based jokes. But I stress the “as I recall” part.
 
Try Jeff Allen. Great material and clean. One of the few that can make me cry with laughter. Also check out his back story on how he found Christ and it turned his life and career around.
