I have a question that I would appreciate clarification on. This norm released by the USCCB in March 2002 related to the GIRM read:

160. The norm for reception of Holy Communion in the dioceses of the United States is standing. Communicants should not be denied Holy Communion because they kneel. Rather, such instances should be addressed pastorally, by providing the faithful with proper catechesis on the reasons for this norm.

Doesn’t this sentence in **bold **directly deal with the reception of the Eucharist by the individual from the Ordinary or Extraordinary Ministers??? Why I ask is I have had discussions with Catholic friends who said it also referred to standing before (i.e. after the Agnus Dei) and through the after Communion refelctive period. That is not the intent of the above, correct??? Thanks and God Bless.

I predict this thread is going to span three pages with many uncharitable posts.

When are you actually receiving Holy Communion? Are you “receiving” when still in your pew before approaching? Are you “receiving” after you return to your pew? Of course not. You are “receiving” Holy Communion when the Blessed Sacrament is placed on your tongue or in your hand, or when you take the chalice to your lips.

Hopefully that will not happen as I was honestly seeking clarification, and I hope our fellow posters will display appropriate decorum. Thanks and God Bless.

Why don’t you read the other threads about this? The answers were given several times.

Hey fix,
If you could, can you find a link to the thread as I read for a couple of hours last night and could not find a direct answer to using the above norm to justify standing before and after Communion??? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks and God Bless.
